English Premier League, Betting Preview, Saturday 21st January
There are 7 live EPL games for punters to get involved in on Saturday and we suggest a bet in each.
Liverpool v Swansea – click here to bet
Liverpool come into the fixture having gone 4 games without a win in all competitions. They have drawn their last 2 English Premier League matches away at Manchester United and Sunderland but they have won 5 of their last 6 at home including a 1-0 victory over Manchester City at Anfield on New Year’s Eve. They are currently 3rd on the table 7 points behind Chelsea and 6 of Liverpool’s 9 home games have delivered for over 2.5 goal backers.
Swansea have only won 1 of their last 6 fixtures in all competitions and last time out were beaten 4-0 at home by Arsenal in the League. Their last away match in the EPL was a 2-1 victory at Crystal Palace which broke an 8 match streak during which time they only managed to get 1 point. 70% of Swansea away matches have seen 3 goals or more scored.
Suggested Bet: Over 3.5 goals at even money.
Over 50% of Liverpool home matches have had 4 goals or more this season and I expect another feast of goals at Anfield.
Stoke City v Manchester United – click here to bet
Stoke City are 9th on the log on 27 points, 15 of which have been accumulated at home. They go in search of their 3rd successive victory, having beaten Sunderland 3-1 away from home and prior to that Watford 2-0 at home. They haven’t lost at home in 4 matches.
Manchester United haven’t lost in the League since late October but they did see their 6 match winning streak come to an end with a 1-1 draw against Liverpool last time out. They are 6th on the log and 12 points behind leaders Chelsea and they have been strong away from home with a 60% win record on the road. They have not been beaten in their last 5 League matches on their travels and they have won their last 3.
The sides drew 1-1 at Old Trafford earlier in the season and Stoke City won this fixture2-0 last season.
Stoke City 5/1
Manchester United 6/10
Suggested bet: Under 2.5 goals at 17/20.
Stoke are difficult to break down at home and this bet would have arrived in 5 of the last 6 head to heads played at Stoke.
Crystal Palace v Everton – click here to bet
Crystal Palace are hovering just above the relegation zone in 17th place on 16 points from 21 matches. They have only taken 2 points from the last 24 on offer in the League and they have lost their last 3 home League matches most recently going down 2-1 to Swansea. There have been 3 goals or more in 60% of the Palace home matches.
Everton are coming off a couple of excellent victories at home beating Manchester City 4-0 and Southampton 3-0. Things haven’t gone quite as well on the road though and they have only taken 4 points from their last 6 matches. That been said they did draw 2-2 with Hull City last time out and prior to that beat Leicester by 2 goals to nil. 60% of Everton away matches have seen over 2.5 goals scored and they currently sit 7th on the log a distant 7 points behind 6th place Manchester United.
The sides drew 1-1 at Goodison Park earlier in the season and have drawn their last 3 head to head fixtures at all grounds.
Crystal Palace 22/10
Suggested bet:The draw at 23/10.
Palace should be now finding their feet under their new manager and they are capable of pushing an Everton side that has performed better at home than on the road. The 23/10 about the draw looks a decent price.
Middlesbrough v West Ham United – click here to bet
Middlesbrough currently sit in 16th place in the EPL log 4 points above the relegation zone. They have drawn their last 2 games, most recently away to Watford and they have only taken 11 points from their 10 home matches the last of which they drew with Leicester City.
West Ham are currently 12th on the log on 25 points, 5 clear of Middlesbrough. Their recent 3-0 home win over Crystal Palace stopped a 2 match losing run in the League and they were last away from home on New Year’s Eve when they lost 1-0 to Leicester. West Ham have lost 60% of their away matches this season.
The sides played to a 1-1 draw at West Ham earlier this season.
West Ham 21/10
Suggested Bet:The draw at 22/10.
I am anticipating a low scoring game as many of Middlesbrough’s home matches have been but the 6/10 under 2.5 goals is too short and I would rather settle on the draw which I think offers better value.
Bournemouth v Watford – click here to bet
Bournemouth are 11th on the table on 25 points after their 21 matches, 17 of these points have come at home. Their last League match was a 3-1 defeat away at Hull City and they have gone 2 games without a win at home drawing 3-3 with Arsenal and losing 3-1 to Southampton. 6 of the 10 Bournemouth home games have delivered 3 goals or more.
Watford have gone 6 games without a victory in the EPL and they find themselves down in 14th place on 23 points. They drew 0-0 with Middlesbrough at home last time out but have lost 5 on the trot on the road most recently 2-0 away to Stoke on the 3rd of January. They haven’t scored a goal in their last 3 road trips.
The sides drew 2-2 at Vicarage Road earlier this season and only 3 of the 10 Watford away games have had more than 2.5 goals.
Suggested Bet:Under 2.5 goals at 8/10.
Watford are really struggling at the moment and battling to score especially on the road. Bournemouth look well capable of winning this game but I prefer the 8/10 that we get less than 3 goals.
West Bromwich v Sunderland– click here to bet
West Brom are enjoying a successful season and they are currently 8th on the log on 29 points, 17 of which have been picked up at home. They are coming off a 4-0 away defeat to Tottenham but have won 4 of their last 5 home fixtures all 4 being by more than 1 goal.
Sunderland head into this fixture in 19th position on 15 points only ahead of bottom club Swansea on goal difference. Last time out they were beaten 3-1 at home by Stoke and they have only taken 4 points out of a possible 30 on the road, losing their last 4 away matches by 2 goals or more.
The teams drew 1-1 at Sunderland earlier in the season and West Brom won this fixture 1-0 last time they played it.
West Bromwich 7/10
Suggested Bet:Handicap, West Brom (-1) at 18/10
West Brom have done very well against teams in the bottom half of the table often winning by 2 goals or more. The reverse applies for Sunderland on the road and this looks a decent bet based on the stats.
Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur – click here to bet
Saturday’s late kick-off is a thriller and puts 2nd place Tottenham away at 5th place Manchester City. City have lost 2 of their last 3 league matches including a 4-0 defeat away to Everton last time out. They have been very strong at home though and are coming off 3 successive wins in Manchester, the most recent been a 2-1 victory over Burnley. City have taken 21 points out of a possible 30 at home this season.
Spurs head into this fixture 7 points behind Chelsea but also looking for a 7th successive victory in the league. They beat West Brom 4-0 at home last weekend and have also found the net 4 times in each of their last 2 away matches beating Watford 4-1 and Southampton by the same score line.
Spurs won this fixture 2-0 at White Hart Lane back in October and they also did the double over City last season.
Manchester City 11/10
Suggested Bet:Tottenham win at 5/2.
A big FA Cup win aside City haven’t impressed me of late and I think Spurs could continue their winning run and march up the table with a 4th successive victory over City.
