EPL Betting Preview Saturday
The English Premier League returns with 8 matches on Saturday and the Liverpool v Everton Merseyside derby stands out as the pick of the bunch.
Liverpool v Everton – click here to bet
Liverpool are currently in 4th position on the log 13 points behind leaders Chelsea, they are 4 and 6 points ahead of Manchester United and Arsenal respectively in 5th and 6th places but have played 2 games more than the teams below them. Their last match was a 1-1 away draw to Manchester City and they are unbeaten in their last 4 home matches winning 3 on the trot.
Everton are currently in 7th position, 6 points behind Liverpool having played the same amount of matches. They have only lost 1 of their last 12 matches in the league and are coming off successive home wins over Hull and West Brom. They have taken 6 points from the last 15 on offer on the road and in their last away match they went down 3-2 at Spurs.
Liverpool won the reverse fixture 1-0 at Goodison Park earlier in the season and last time the sides met at Anfield they ran out comfortable 4-0 victors.
Suggested Bet: Under 2.5 goals at 11/10
I am expecting this to be an exciting match but I am not sure we are going to see that many goals and this bet would have arrived in in 4 of the last 5 head to heads between the sides.
Manchester United v West Brom – click here to bet
Manchester United are currently in 5th spot on 52 points, 4 points behind Liverpool in 4th but with 2 games in hand. Their last League game was a 3-1 away victory at Middlesbrough and they have only lost once at home all season but will be disappointed to have played to 7 draws in 14 home matches including 3 of their last 4 appearances at Old Trafford. The last 4 Manchester United home games have delivered for under 2.5 goal backers.
West Brom are a very respectable 8th on the table and while they trail 7th placed Everton by 7 points they are also 7 points clear of 9th placed Stoke. The most recent match was a 3-1 home win over Arsenal and prior to that they have lost 2 on the trot. They have only taken 2 points from the last 12 on offer on the road and 4 of their last 5 away matches have had 3 goals or more in them.
United won 2-0 at West Brom earlier in the season and last time the sides met at Old Trafford it was also 2-0 to United. Under 2.5 goals would have arrived in their last 4 head to head matches during which time only 1 side has found the back of the net.
Manchester United 4/10
West Brom 33/4
Suggested bet: Correct score, Manchester United 2 West Brom 0 at 21/4
This is not a market I usually get involved in but United look a little bit too short for me to back outright and most of their victories at home have been by 1 or 2 goal margins. This bet will give me a nice interest while I wait for an in-play opportunity.
Burnley v Tottenham Hotspur – click here to bet
Burnley are currently 13th on the log on 32 points, 8 points clear of the relegation zone. 29 of those 32 points have come at home and they have only taken 3 points from the last 18 they have played for in the League. Their last home match was a 1-1 draw with Chelsea and prior to that they had won 5 on the trot, 4 of their last 5 home matches have delivered under 2.5 goals.
Spurs head into the weekend in 2nd place on the log, 10 points behind leaders Chelsea and 2 ahead of 3rd place Manchester City. They won their last 3 matches in the League but are without a win in 3 on the road losing their last away match 2-0 at Liverpool, prior to that coming off successive draws to Sunderland and Manchester City.
Spurs beat Burnley 2-1 at White Hart Lane earlier this season and Burnley haven’t hosted Spurs since the 2014/2015 season when the sides played to a 0-0 draw.
Suggested Bet: Handicap, Burnley (+1) at 12/10
Burnley showed against Chelsea that they are capable of mixing it with the big boys at home and I think they can get something out of a Spurs side that will miss their star striker Harry Kane.
Chelsea v Crystal Palace – click here to bet
Chelsea look to be cruising to the English Premier League title and they sit 10 points ahead of their nearest rivals heading into this weekend. They have won 6 of their last 8 matches in the League, drawing the other 2 and in their last match they beat Stoke City 2-1 away. They have won their last 10 home matches in a row only conceding more than 1 goal on a single occasion.
Crystal Palace were playing their best football of the season heading into the break and they had won 3 in a row including a 1-0 home victory over Watford last time out. The 9 points collected means they are up to 16th place on the log on 28 points, 4 clear of the relegation zone. Their last away match was a 2-0 victory at West Brom and in their last 5 away matches only one team has managed to score.
Chelsea beat Palace 1-0 on the road earlier in the season and this fixture went to Chelsea 3-0 in the 2015/2016 season.
Crystal Palace 10/1
Suggested bet: Handicap, Chelsea (-1) at 17/20
Palace may be on a great run but they are not in the class of this Chelsea side who have won their last 5 home matches by at least 2 clear goals.
Hull City v West Ham – click here to bet
Hull are currently in 18th spot in the EPL on 24 points, that leaves them 3 points clear of safety and also concerning is that both sides below them have a game in hand. Hull have taken 4 points from the last 15 on offer and last time out went down 4-0 away to Everton. Their home form is a lot better though and they are unbeaten in their last 5, winning 3 and drawing 2 and in their most recent home match they beat Swansea 2-1.
West Ham are sliding down the table and are currently in 12th position on 33 points. They have lost their last 3 matches in a row and haven’t won in their last 5. Their last match was a 3-2 home defeat to Leicester and they went down by the same margin to Bournemouth in their last away match. Both teams have managed to find the back of the net in 5 of the last 6 West Ham away matches.
The Hammers beat Hull 1-0 at home earlier in the season and Hull last hosted West Ham in 2014 when the sides played to a 2-2 draw.
Hull City 15/10
West Ham 18/10
Suggested bet: The draw at 5/2
Both teams will be desperate not to lose this one and with nothing else jumping out at me I am going to go for a play on the draw which was the result the last time the sides met here.
Watford v Sunderland – click here to bet
Watford are currently 14th on the log on 31 points just 7 clear of the relegation zone and by no means assured of Premier League football next season. Their last start was a 1-0 defeat away to Crystal Palace and they have only taken 1 point from the last 12 on offer in the League. Their home form has not been much better and they have only won 1 of their last 6 in front of their own fans. Their last home match was an entertaining 4-3 defeat to Southampton.
Sunderland are currently rock bottom of the table on 20 points from 28 matches and even with a victory here they will still be guaranteed to be in the relegation zone. They have only taken 1 point in their last 4 matches and they have lost 6 of their last 7 games on the road. All of these losses coming by at least a 2 goal margin.
Sunderland beat Watford 1-0 at home earlier in the season and when the sides last met at Vicarage Road the sides played to a 2-2 draw.
Suggested bet: Watford win at 17/20
Watford haven’t been in great shape of late but they should be too strong for a Sunderland side that looks certain to be heading down to the Championship.
Leicester v Stoke City – click here to bet
Leicester have climbed up to 15th on the table after three successive victories since parting ways with manager Claudio Ranieri. Their last match was a 3-2 away victory over West Ham and prior to that they had home victories over Hull and Liverpool. Leicester’s last 4 home matches have delivered for over 2.5 goal backers.
Stoke are 9th on the table on 36 points just 4 shy of that magical 40 mark which would ensure safety. They lost 2-1 at home to Chelsea last time out and they have only taken 4 points from the last 21 on offer on the road. Stoke have failed to score in their last 3 away matches.
The reverse fixture finished 2-2 at Stoke earlier in the season and last time Leicester hosted Stoke they won 3-0 on route to the English Premier League title.
Stoke City 28/10
Suggested Bet: Over 2.5 goals at 9/10
While Stokes lack of scoring on the road is a concern, Leicester have found their attacking touch but at the same time tend to concede goals as well and I am looking for 3 or more goals in this one.
Southampton v Bournemouth – click here to bet
10th place Southampton and 11th place Bournemouth are separated by just goal difference although Southampton do have 2 games in hand. Southampton’s last match was a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham and their last 6 games in the League have delivered for over 2.5 goal backers. They have lost 3 of their last 4 home games but all 4 of these matches have had 3 goals or more in them.
Bournemouth have won their last 2 League games at home to Swansea and West Ham. Their form on the road is not great though and they have only taken 4 points from the last 24 on offer. Their last away match was a 1-1 draw at Manchester United which broke a run of 7 successive Bournemouth away matches with 3 goals or more in them.
Southampton beat Bournemouth 3-1 away earlier in the season and they last hosted Bournemouth in 2015 winning 2-0.
Suggested Bet: Over 2.5 goals at 7/10
I don’t often back 7/10 shots but looking at the stats of these 2 teams I actually feel that it is quite a generous price for over 2.5 goals in this match.
