‘I hope she knows’: Alligator Blood owner watches Stradbroke win next to wife in

There wasn’t the roar of success for Alligator Blood owner Allan Endresz as his star galloper raced away with Saturday’s Stradbroke at Eagle Farm.

Endresz was in Albury, lying on his bed next to wife Joy, who is in a coma as her battle with cancer nears an end.

“She always wanted to see Al win again,” Endresz said. “I was next to her watching on the phone and the rest of the family were out watching on TV cheering. It is bittersweet. It was so quiet in our room.

“It’s great to see him back but ...” Endresz’s voice trailed off before he continued.

“I hope she knows. Joy wanted two things to be here at home and for Al to win again. The palliative care nurse said to me last night that she might not make it [to the race] - she did.”
