This thread was all about Jaap Visser and alleged cruelty to horses. It ran to many pages and had over 8000 views according to the Sporting Post.

www.sportingpost.co.za/2013/09/kimberley...igating-allegations/

I note that the thread was closed by Bob to allow the NHA to investigate - I have seen no further information.

Well "the trainer" as Joanne loved to call him is back.

www.sportingpost.co.za/2020/09/jaap-viss...rain-from-milnerton/

Recently the other Kimberley trainer who had been warned off Kobus Roux began training again.

Exactly what message is the NHA giving by allowing these "gentlemen" to be licenced?

I AM DISGUSTED

Absolutely.

Following last week's Fairview abomination, this should be converted to a sticky thread to remind us how exploited some of the thoroughbreds are in this industry - whether it be by Trainers, Grooms or the Authorities themselves.

For what it's worth - this character was also charged and found guilty for irregular administration of medicine to another horse literally weeks before the cruelty allegations.

What a Savage. This excuse of a human should not be let anyway near animals. Where is the SPCA ?? Animal cruelty association ?? Is there no rule of law anymore? This man is no better than a barbarian uncivilised and primitive. A criminal case should have been opened up against him ages ago.

Oh dear , oh dear

I see there is a campaign to open up the graveyard.

Not for me!

Here’s another reminder why

“ Trainer Cliffie Miller was charged for doping a horse which collapsed and died during a race earlier this year, the National Horseracing Authority (NHA) confirmed in a statement on Tuesday.

At an inquiry held at the NHA offices in Johannesburg last week, Miller was charged with contravening rule 73.2.4, being the trainer responsible for the horse Island Mischief.

The incident happened during the running of the sixth race at the Flamingo Park Racecourse on May 20.

A blood specimen was taken from the horse and, upon analysis, the presence of Methylprednisolone, which is a prohibited substance in terms of the NHA rules, was found”

Under the current climate and the position of racing in general, surely this is not a sensible option and would forecast that there is more chance of closing more tracks than opening an old one.

It's not just here the horse population is dropping

Racing Post

At a time of notably small fields on the all-weather, officials at Newcastle expressed disappointment at its £20,000 feature on Thursday attracting just three horses.

Flat cards have been hit by low numbers across the board of late and only two of the 15 races at Lingfield and Wolverhampton on Friday attracted a double-figure field, while all the fields at Lingfield on Wednesday were single figures.

That continued a trend in which a higher proportion of all-weather races were run in Britain in December with five runners or fewer (11.07 per cent) than in the previous six years, according to BHA statistics.

In January, 16.1 per cent of such races have attracted fewer than six runners.

I have seen the multitude of pleas to re-open the groot gat and agree with Dave this will not happen. There is more chance of the Vaal sand re-opening I mean at least the track is owned by the operator - Kimberley got sold and from what I have been told, it is being used for other horsey activities. The NHA were conspicuous by their absence in policing Kimberley and that is the major reason that we had all the doping and abuse of horses. The old Kimberley trainers can cry me a river, facts are facts. That center had a shameful record in that regard.

Keep it closed it is not needed.
