Kenilworth, 20/10

Good to see Fayd’Herbe back, and some big name visiting jockeys riding.

Fancy the treble :-

R2) Take To War X (R3) Bonanza X (R5) Mr Master Starter

Race (1)
The raced runners don’t have strong exposed form, betting should be a better guide.

Race (2)
Considering the going was heavy on the day of it’s last run, and based on times, Take To War (4/1 with WSB) should be a huge contender to win here. Was headed very late in the race, but was well clear of the balance of the field. In the self same race, the 9th placed finisher, Service Ace, some 10 lengths behind, came and won next time out, and Double Superlative, who also on times would have finished 6 lengths behind Take To War, came out and won next time. The majority of the field are largely unexposed, watch the betting, especially on Pineapple Express, who was fancied/backed last time in the same race as Take To War, but had valid excuses and ran accordingly.

Race (3)
Bonanza (12/1 with WSB) made good improvement after being gelded, taking on a MR 76 field of relatively tried and exposed horses and should win this. The second and third placed finishers have since come out and won, so the form has been franked, and being in receipt of 5 kgs from the only other three year old in the race, should have the beating of Intrepid. Bonanza looks open to further improvement and must be the one they all have to beat. The current odds are extremely “generous”, strike early cannot see Bonanza jumping at these odds.

Race (4)
Difficult plated race where the most likely fancied runners are making their seasonal debuts and are being aimed at bigger races. Gun to the head, Real Gone Kid, but not a confident choice.

Race (5)
Mr Master Starter (3/1 with WSB) on breeding should have no issues seeing out the extra distance. Won a really good race last time, came down the middle of the course where the going was slightly slower than the inside, and still prevailed. Obviously being prepared for a crack at the Guineas, think off this weight and looking progressive, must be the one they all have to beat.

Race (6)
Divided handicaps are always difficult, staying out. Field race if you playing a JP/P6.

Race (7)
Also a divided handicap, siding marginally with Crimson Princess off the weight.

Race (8)
Sunday Island
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

The Cape Trainers seems to be more willing to provide comments

In connection with early trainers comments.
We need to consider they are given many days before the actual race.
If the trainer has a decent sort does the owner want the trainer to tell everyone before he has a first stab at the price?
What happened to barrier trials?
I think they became a bit of a joke after the initial intention?

Bottom line don't think trainers comments are worth much in time to print in computaform but a comment on race day is far more beneficial

Good Punting

Some to consider today...

Race 1 - 1 Tamil Tiger
Race 2 - 2 Exceed Expectations
Race 4 - 2 Vernichey - a bit too short priced
Race 8 - 4 Sunday Island - a bit too short priced

All the best to Clanners for today...stay safe and healthy...beautiful KZN day...

Hot sunny day, going good. Not much wind yet, but a bit of a headwind later. Early start at 12h05.
Race 1 Big field, and first timers may be the key. Tamil Tiger and Phedra fair form; Apollo Moon and Fallo Ancora fair debuts and should improve. Our filly, Helen's Legend will go 2000m, but we expect a much better run today as she disliked the sloppy going.
race 2 Take to War I agree with Bayern is the pick. Dangers are Exceed Expectation and Steinbeck, but first timers could pop up.
race 3 Quite tricky with some hard knockers taking on the 3yos Intrepid and Bonanza. Again I must agree with Bayern that Bonanza looks good value at 12/1
Race 4 Vernichey is the one to beat if fit. Russet Air is capable, but off the track for a while as well. Real Gone Kid improving but also a long rest. Elusive Trader could be the upset if those three all need the run.
Race 5 The 3yos hold the key. Mr Master Starter first choice but all of Que Shiraz, Darjeeling and Waiting for Summer deserve respect. Gallic Tribe trotted up last time and probably best of the older horses.
race 6 Very open, and again leaning towards the 3yos. I think that Just Power is the ew value here.
Race 7 Another tough race. Our mare Grey Princess is fit and well but was punished for her last win and now a tough task this division even off a low weight.
Race 8 Sunday Island has good form and should enjoy the trip. The one to beat but I think too short priced. Field of Vision well in at the weights. Baratheon and Douglas plenty scope for improvement. Exceeder improved last time and his form in the wet can be forgiven. Can pop up here.

There we go Bayern.
Both favorites coming back from breaks, one since Feb the other June.
Crawford's horse had the longer break and comes back in top condition and wins easily while Adam Marcus's horse comes back and runs dismally.
That's what pisses me off, when trainers use a race as a training gallop and don't or don't know how to do enough work at home for the horse to give a decent showing at the races.

That was the first run for Marcus and the new owner - We do not know how long the horse has been with him - if the horse was injured after the last start or why the horse was sold - Those factors should have made you cautious
