Quite a lot of rain here in Midrand - but according to the track report, there was no rain at the track over the last 24 hrs To me it looks an easier card than on Tuesday - thoughts .....
R1: The proverbial 2-horse-race; I do prefer Coming in Hot to Abyyaan; CiH comes out of a strong formline behind Zeus, while Abyyaan has been lacking a finish - so to me the betting is the wrong way around; Back to Basics tops the Speed Rating in Computaform, but does look decidedly moderate imo
R2: Competitive Progress Plate; Gallic Chief has shortened in the market and it's not hard to understand why - did beat Grappler by 4 lengths, while Mufasa was beaten by more than 4 lengths by Grappler - so at level weights GC should have Mufasa stone cold - even allowing for the possibility that Mufasa may be better over 1000; I think the main danger to GC could be Invidia, but he runs as if he needs 1200, as is the case with Bartholdi, while I think that Captain Morisco has something to find at these weights
R3: Sky Glitter is seemingly taking on the blind school here and on her sprint form in KZN looks very hard to beat; if she somehow fluffs her lines, any of Namibsroos, Lil Wahoo, Petunia, Angel's Wish or Raising a Storm could take advantage; first-timer Yours Truly on breeding should prefer much further, but given the poor field, could feature
R4: After the scratching of Quest from Afar, Maria's World does look the one they all have to beat - she should prefer this 1700 and the opposition seems really moderate; Kissed by Fire probably the main danger if allowed to stride, while there is not much between the disappointing Crown Plaza and Evoke on their last runs
R5: Maiden Handicap, so not clear cut; Duke of Rain and Gimme a Dream boast the best form, but they need to give weight away to all - DoR does have the advantage of pole position; lightly raced 3-yr old filly Rattle Bag gets 9.5 kgs from the top weights, so could be the one to give most cheek; Gold Ambition ran a fair race last time, but that was also in a Maiden Handicap - does get blinkers, but has a wide draw; Takagari hit the front 400m out last time, so could also prove dangerous this trip, while Admiral's Moon improved in the same race, but may be better over further and has a wide draw to boot; Jaipur Jewel probably next best
R6: Open handicap and not too many without a chance; top 4 for me (in no particular order) is the Peter coupling Elusive Current and Suited Connector (ran to a higher mark last time) and the consistent Bey Suyay and Waqaas; next best I make Power Ranger, while Duke of Sussex looks the best roughie
R7: Top 2 for me here is Bella Chica and Cold Fact - should not be much between them at the weights; Muleta next best and even though Milan's Princess runs in steels, she is very well weighted here so could surprise
R8: Interesting race to close; Bathing Beauty surprised the connections when winning first time out - did beat Rosara by 5.5 lengths, but now has to give her 6.5 kgs, so given the fact that BB may be ring rusty, Rosara seems a lively contender, along with Gin and Tonic (beat Rosara by 3 lengths in the Maidens and now gives her 2.5 kgs) and Samoa, who is knocking hard at the door; Verinova looks better suited to 1000m and probably next best
Enjoy

Is racing still a gogo?
Aware Pretoria far away from Vaal but it's been pouring the entire morning.
Pick 6 on hold at this stage
