I could actually write a book on Betfair
In fact was given many copies of "Betfair for Dummies" to circulate when they tried to become licensed in SA
They were blocked 🚫 as the rule was you can't lay an event unless you hold a bookmakers licensed.
It can we fun but need to spend many hours if you use as a trading tool .
plus if you are laying a 2/1 shot you might have to offer 3/1 or 7/2.....
Plenty fun and games ahead
In running also very interesting topic 😉

Look Durbs, better the devil you know than the Devil you dont.
we would be naive to think that these lays were not done off shore previous to this.
like i say ive been on the exchange for many years and i know of big hitters also on the same or similar exchanges.
but betting trends can be monitored, if i take an average of R5000 bets a day and tomorrow ive laid a 6/10 shot to win R500 000, that will be some kind of red flag.
they need to investigate that bet and the authorities have the right to ask me questions related to this bet, especially if they find that the ride was questionable , but they have a starting point to have access to see who benefitted from this loss.
Look bookies made money from this information for years on years.
their perfect answer was that its their business to stand horses.
infact i will go far as to say, i will be petrified to lay this bet even if it was just my choice to do so,
on saturday i layed double grand slam to lose 100k , because i had 350k to pick up on the jp with it being banker and about 400k as it turned out with jet force winning the last leg of the p6.
so i got my stake out and a small profit albeit i wanted it to win.

The mistake "punters" make is that they think bookmakers lay horses and therefore laying on Betfair is easy.
Bookmakers dont lay horses, punter's back horses. Big difference. That puts the pressure on the punter and the emotional roller coaster ride is all the punters. Hence chasing losses.
Now laying on bet fair by studying form is exactly the same journey, and then you are not laying 5/1 you are laying 7/1 so when you get it wrong even though it made sense you are now back in the chasing game.
Beefier certainly has its merits, laying back in sports bets or multiples or like as above to cover a pick 6 etc.
But for those that think "studying" form and laying horses will make you money think again.

Opened an account to see, be WARNED this is not the full package. France v Morocco, had you taken the OVER in the goals with the hope to trade out you would find yourself dammed as those markets are now suspended. This is not what bet fair was designed for, the message is "to maintain integrity" of the market blah blah....not impressed.
THE instant that the owner/operator can open up markets or close them changes the whole dynamic of what this is supposed to be.
Betfair SA over 2.5 (photo if needed ) closed at R849k traded
Real Betfair at 79 minutes £4.9 m traded..
Be warned

The markets always get suspended, when there's a Var check in progress or red card etc etc
Infact to maintain integrity, if a bet is struck during this period, all bets are nullified.
Markets reopen after the decision has been finalised.
As far as amounts traded goes, this may vary from betfair Sa. Betfair uk, betfair aus, Ss exchange, etc etc
but what doesnt change is the prices offered on betfair uk and betfair sa, is EXACTLY THE SAME and thats the most important criteria.
i traded in yesterdays game, albeit in a different market to the 2,5 goals market , and to me there was fair trade throughout the game.
Like i initially mentioned its still in a soft launch stage , and the full package is not available, but this will come in due course.
I also know that an operator/affiliate can hold up to 50% of a bet struck by a punter, not sure if Race Coast is doing this or choosing specific markets like local racing to do this, but that is an option for them.
i suspect that they are on certain markets, because on a small liquidity place market when i asked for R500 at a price only R250 appeared but i was matched R500 when that R250 was matched .
But I stand to be corrected on the above.

Betfair.com is still geo blocked 🚫 in SA unless you use VPN
The difference apart from liquidity is
5% deduction on all bets
SA bookies no deduction on Sports and 6% on racing

You really don’t like bet fair, hey easy?
This is a silly thing to warn people aboutI
t’s called gambling, and as anything in life you must be prepared to protect yourself.
So don’t click to take a bet if you’re not prepared to live with the consequences. I’ve often had markets close on me - rugby, cricket etc. when the local clowns still laid me a bet, but that is what lateral thinking is for
If you want to trade out, the local markets are still available, and nobody beats betXchange in-running prices
.At least I can now have a bet again - something I cannot do with ANY of the local clowns
Punters that feel backing places on horses is the way to go, can now get 50% more for their dime with betfair; a very big benefit to them.
If i think something can’t win – lay it
Many more pros than cons – don’t even know if there are cons.

Fingers,
I LOVE Betfair and have had an account since it was called flutter. I also understand it and its mechanics very very well. Betfair is a tool for punters.
Yes when there is Var the market suspends, but that is not the case here.
The market was not turned in play by the local suppliers. This tactic has been used by many white labels for the last 15 years. However in the case of a legal
Betfiar SA this should not be needed as there cannot be a market manipulation or parsing funds ( the main reason weak markets are not turned in play)
So had a punter taken an accumulator with over 2.5 as the anchor and then wanted to trade out , exactly one of the reasons you would have Betfair you could not.
So you back in the same boat with your local bookmaker perhaps considering the cashout option at 30-40% as opposed to laying the over 2.5 at 4% plus you comm on winning / losing.
