It was fitting that Flame Bearer won the newly named WillowWarm Gold Cup, given the sponsors produce an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fuel briquettes, but the tragic death of Mighty Potter put a real dampener on the day.

Still only six but already a four-time Grade 1 winner, Mighty Potter was being talked up as a potential Gold Cup winner, but we will never find out as he suffered a fatal fall at the tenth fence.

"That's the game we're in, isn't it? You've got to keep your head up and keep going," said a philosophical but clearly devastated Gordon Elliott afterwards.

Now I know why they only had one ride today. As for Spencer’s what as waste of money as he did not even try to get the horse into the race jumped last and stayed there finishing a good 50 lengths behind the winner

£4.73/1 treble for prices atm. If ever there was a treble near cert (with the same rider and stable) then this has to be it but it’s horse racing and gambling so as we know nothing is a definite.
