EPL Betting Preview, Saturday 8th April

Chelsea Hazard

There is plenty of English Premier League action to bet on this weekend and we start by looking at the 7 games taking place on Saturday.

Tottenham Hotspur v Watford – click here to bet

Spurs kept their admittedly faint title hopes alive to come from behind with 3-1 victory over Swansea on Wednesday night.  They trailed 1-0 approaching injury time and managed to score 3 quick goals to take the victory.  They remain 7 points behind Chelsea with both sides having 8 more games to play.  The victory was Spurs 5th successive win in the League, they have won 10 in a row at home.

Just when it looked as if Watford would be slipping back into the relegation zone they have grabbed 2 crucial victories in succession beating West Brom and Sunderland at home.  They are now up to 10th on the table on 37 points, 9 points clear of the drop.  Watford lost their last 2 matches on the road at Crystal Palace and Manchester United and failed to score a goal in either game.

Spurs won 4-1 at Watford earlier in the season and they beat Watford 1-0 at White Hart Lane last season.

Spurs 1/4

Draw 9/2

Watford 11/1

Suggested bet:  Handicap, Tottenham (-1) at 15/20.

Spurs will be keen to keep the pressure on Chelsea with a victory and I feel that Watford may just step off the gas a bit having all but ensured their survival in the English Premier League.

Manchester City v Hull City – click here to bet

Manchester City saw any faint title hopes that they had disappear in midweek when they lost 2-1 at Chelsea.  They have now only taken 3 points from the last 12 on offer in the League but they are at least hanging on to that 4th spot in the table.  City haven’t lost in their last 7 home games with 4 wins and 3 draws and 6 out of their last 11 home matches have been drawn.

Hull City had a much needed victory over Middlesbrough in midweek by 4-2 but they remain just clear of the relegation zone in 17th place and 2 points above Swansea.  They have won 3 of their last 4 matches in the League but their away form has been dismal and they have only taken 1 point from their last 13 away matches.

City beat Hull 3-0 away earlier this season.

Manchester City 1/5

Draw 13/2

Hull City 13/1

Suggested bet:  Over 3.5 goals at 1/1.

This bet would have arrived in Hull’s last 2 away matches at Everton and Leicester.  City have conceded goals in 5 of their last 6 home matches so Hull may well get on the score sheet and I can see them leaking plenty of goals at the other end.

Middlesbrough v Burnley click here to bet

Middlesbrough have gone 13 League games without a victory and in midweek they were beaten 4-2 away at Hull.  The result leaves them down in 19th place a full 7 points clear of survival.  They have only taken 3 points from the last 15 on offer at home and have only scored 3 times in their last 5 home matches.

Burnley are currently in 14th spot on 35 points, 7 points clear of the relegation zone but by no means guaranteed of safety.  They picked up 3 valuable points with a 1-0 home victory over Stoke in midweek and that broke a 7 game run without a win in the League.  Their away form is the worst in the division and they have only taken 3 points all season although 2 of these have come in their last 4 away games.

Burnley won the reverse fixture 1-0 at home and Middlesbrough won by the same score line when they hosted Burnley in the Championship last season.

Middlesbrough 14/10

Draw 22/10

Burnley 22/10

Suggested bet:  The draw at 22/10.

Middlesbrough will be desperate for the 3 points but I fancy Burnley to give them a good run for their money despite a very poor away record.  They have drawn 2 of their last 4 on the road and I think that they can make it 3 from 5.

Stoke City v Liverpoolclick here to bet

Stoke are 12th on the log on 36 points and they are probably one victory short of ensuring survival in the English Premier League.  They were beaten 1-0 away by Burnley in midweek, their 3rd successive loss in the League.  Their home form has been a lot better and although they did lose 2-1 to Chelsea last time out that broke the run of 8 successive matches without a loss.  Under 2.5 goals would have arrived in 5 of Stoke’s last 6 home matches.

Liverpool are 3rd on the log but have played a game or two more than most of their rivals.  They let in a late equaliser at home to Bournemouth in midweek and they are without a win in 5 matches on the road.

Liverpool had few problems seeing off Stoke 4-1 at Anfield earlier in the season and they also won this fixture 1-0 in the 2015/2016 season.

Stoke City 3/1

Draw 28/10

Liverpool 9/10

Suggested bet:  Handicap, Stoke (+1) at 9/10.

Stoke are no pushovers at home and I think they may be able to take advantage of a Liverpool team whose morale is low after dropping what looked to be certain points against Bournemouth.

West Bromwich v Southamptonclick here to bet

West Brom and Southampton are 8th and 9th in the League but there is a full 7 points separating them although Southampton do have 2 games in hand over the team above them on the log.

West Brom have had something of a wobbly patch and have had only won 1 of their last 5 matches in the League and last time out they lost 2-0 away to Watford.  Their home form has been a lot stronger with 4 wins in their last 5 including a 3-1 victory over Arsenal in their last home game.

Southampton were too strong for Crystal Palace at home in midweek winning 3-1.  Their last away match was a 2-1 defeat at Spurs and over 2.5 goals has arrived in the last 4 Southampton away games.

West Brom beat Southampton 2-1 away earlier in the season and Southampton won this fixture 3-0 last season.

West Brom 2/1

Draw 22/10

Southampton 15/10

Suggested bet:  Over 2.5 goals at 12/10.

The price looks generous to me as Southampton away games tend to have a lot of goals in them and West Brom score quite freely at home as well.

West Ham v Swansea click here to bet

West Ham have lost their last 5 games in a row in the League and haven’t won in their last 7.  They were beaten 3-0 away by Arsenal in midweek and have slipped to 15th on the table on 33 points just 5 points clear of the relegation zone.  They have only taken 1 point from the last 12 they have played for at home and the last 5 West Ham home matches have delivered for over 2.5 goal backers.

Swansea are currently in 18th spot on 28 points and they occupy the final relegation slot.  They looked to be heading for a precious 3 points in midweek when they led Spurs 1-0 late on at home but they conceded 3 late goals to drop the points.  They have drawn 1 and lost 3 of their last 4 matches in the League but things are even worse on the road where they have lost 4 on the trot.  8 of the last 9 Swansea away matches have delivered 3 goals or more.

West Ham won the reverse fixture 4-1 at Swansea earlier in the season and amazingly Swansea won by the same score line when they were the away team last season.

West Ham 11/10

Draw 5/2

Swansea 5/2

Suggested bet:  Over 2.5 goals at 15/20.

Given how crucial victory is for both sides there is certainly a danger that this could be a low scoring affair but when you consider that West Ham have conceded at least 2 goals a game in their last 4 home matches and Swansea have done likewise in their last 5 away matches, I firmly believe that we will see goal mouth action in this one.

Bournemouth v Chelsea click here to bet

Bournemouth came from 2-1 down to draw 2-2 with Liverpool away in midweek and that point could yet be crucial to their survival hopes and they sit in 13th place on 35 points some 7 points clear of the relegation zone.  They are undefeated in their last 5 League matches and have won their last 2 in a row at home against Swansea and West Ham.

Chelsea remain well on track for another English Premier League title and they beat Manchester City 2-1 at home on Wednesday night.  They remain 7 points clear of Spurs at the top of the table.  Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 5 away matches, winning 3 and drawing 2 and both teams have found the net in Chelsea’s last 4 away matches.

Chelsea beat Bournemouth 3-0 at Stamford Bridge in the reverse fixture and they won 4-1 at Bournemouth last season.

Bournemouth 9/2

Draw 3/1

Chelsea 6/10

Suggested bet:  Matchbet + Totals:  Over 2.5 goals and Chelsea to win at 5/4.

Both teams will be well up for this match but the class of Chelsea should tell and I expect them to win a game which should have a few goals in it.
