Prince Eyes Kings Cup

Justin Snaith-trained five-time winner Platinum Prince has a bright chance to open his KwaZulu-Natal campaign with a winning debut at Greyville on Sunday when teamed up with top-flight jockey Grant van Niekerk in Race 6, the R150,000 Kings Cup (Grade 3) over 1600m.

This gelding racked up four wins in a row at Kenilworth but failed next time when seventh out of 17 in the 2000m Algoa Cup (Listed) at Fairview. On his return to base the four-year-old was never a factor from a slow start in the 1800m Forus Premier Trophy (Grade 2) at Kenilworth.

However, he turned in an encouraging run in his subsequent outing when running on from a slow start and finishing 2.75-length third in the Peninsula Handicap (Grade 2) over the same course and distance. He is likely to be primed and ready after a short break and could strike with the advantage of the best draw.

Though up in class expect a bold bid from Brett Crawford-trained four-time winner Redeemer (Sean Veale) who comes off a splendid hat-trick at Scottsville over 1600m.

Also deserving inclusion in Pick 6 and Jackpot bets is consistent six-time winner Redcarpet Captain (Keagan de Melo) from Mark Dixon’s stable. Next best are Celtic Captain, It’s My Turn and Social Order.
