There were numerous articles and coverage of this incident as well as many others but I cannot remember any condemnation by fellow posters...double standards methinks but that is just my humble opinion...

All life of this earth is important and when we take a particular view we can come across as placing greater value on some lives (especially those we feel or have a kinship with) than others...we can all be guilty of this bias...but need to be cognisant of how it will be perceived and the responses / reactions it is sure to illicit from others who have a different view...

To expand on what I stated in the previous post...

For every example of the brutality and senselessness of Islamic fundamentalism that anyone cites, there are many others that can provide examples of the brutality and senselessness of Christian fundamentalism or Hindu fundamentalism or Bhuddist fundamentalism, etc...some are done by states and others by individuals but they are no less devastating for the people (in the majority innocents who do not take sides in the event) on the receiving end...

In all its forms and whoever commits such atrocities, it should and must be condemned and ranted against but it does protect who it purports to protect but only leaves innocents more vulnerable and uncertain and fearful...

People from all communities just want to live in peace and prosper and take care of the needs of their families but there are always those that profit from chaos that will usurp the will of the majority...and the majority are not inclined to be violent to stop the chaos- creating minority...way it has always been for millenia so unlikely to see great change in that in the foreseeable future...

The problem is religion in my opinion. Why can we not accept that we are just highly evolved animals.... And when we die we are gone. Poof, nil,niks,nader. Life is precious as we only have one and it should be respected.

Is no coincidence that Sweden is the most peaceful nation on earth.... 85% of the population are atheists.

For the record I believe that religion is the biggest and most enduring con job played on mankind.

Have read plenty on this thread and always a bit concerned when strong views are exchanged in regards to religion but must say I thought your post Magi was the best so far.

I wonder why we need the guidance of ancient scriptures (and the varied interpretations thereof based on what goal the purveyors thereof seek to accomplish) to guide us in discerning right from wrong...our intellects supposed to be that guide and when we do wrong, we intrinsically know it but still continue due to self interest...

It starts and ends with respect...for yourself firstly and then for all things on this earth...to which we return when we pass...there is no other life or afterlife so do the best you can with the one you have and leave a legacy (in all your interactions with things of this earth) that your kids can be proud of and aspire to emulate or exceed...
