i see no difference between horse racing and dog racing. if its ok to race animals called horses it should be ok to race animals called dogs.

I can tell you that if Horse Racing was not available in SA it would not be allowed to start

I must say ,that these are my thoughts too!
However,if this is just one of the issues that are a follow up to the gambling investigation commissioned by the dept of trade and industry ,I would be very interested in other submissions in response to many of the other recommendations , so where do I find the submission in its entirety ...................does anybody know .................can't find it on the dti website!

In the horse racing industry we have a major problem with retired or injured horses finding good homes. We all accept and agree to this, why then create a new problem ? The animal is the only one that will suffer.
No, big No !

controversial as it may sound, why not use them for food instead of letting horses suffer??

No a big No !
Where there is a strong tradition and supposedly strong rules and regulations overseas you still see horror stories with regard ex racers and loads of greyhounds that never make the track living out their lives in misery.
Here in SA where there is zero respect for human life never mind animals it'll be a circus with the necessary man power to prevent abuse and uphold the law non existent.
One can only imagine what would happen in townships such as Mitchells Plain and Nyanga referring to the Cape where it would be open to a massive criminal element .
Love the dogs overseas and my dad bred and raced them in Ireland , but to think it would work here I have my serious concerns .

What's dog fighting and human poverty got to do with dog racing?

Quite a lot actually - After they finish racing where do you think they'll end up?
In two ticks some clever will be buying them up to use as Bait dogs in Fighting rings(just yesterday morning I heard a poor chap from Thembisa, I think, call 702 to say the family pet- a 8 month old pit bull had been stolen from his home and the whole family were upset as he was their pride and joy) - Then another lot will get them to race in the townships just like those that used horses to do that- Others will be adopted by well meaning types that will take them home and find they can't afford the vet bills for dogs that are finicky and they'll end up being dumped or they don't have the time to walk dogs that are used to a very active life and will dump them when they start eating the garden out of frustration -

It would but having Shar Peis they would not take me onboard because they have far too many health issues and the premiums would be too high
