Strydom's Ride on Congratulady
17 years 2 months ago
I thought a very good ride.
Generally ride of the month involves close finished. But hear the jock moved to the outside rail had a run but tucked in behind the laird runner and then came switched at the right time to win a good race.
Well done

Brilliant ride Sylvester, have to agree with you. I just wish he scored a quick double with Aces Wild though...

y is it that only strydom (as fans say "striker") is always praised, but other jocks ride a great race and no one says **** all...
Even the commintators will say, eg. "and its strydom in front" wat has the jock got to do with the horses name anyway...
He's a great jock but come on...

We praise Manne all the time on the site.
STRYDOM has also taken a lot of flack on this site.
I like the guy because of his success with smaller yards.

Just like any great sports person be it in football rugby baseball or racing when they score or a goal or win a race their name will be brought to the fore and without a doubt Striker is one of the best in our industry who gets a lot of flak when he doesnt ride to our perception of his ability so should be praised when he does,he is top class.

Strydom and Fortune are natural riders while Marcus works hard to get the best out of his mounts - any owner should be happy to have any of these three aboard his horses but they all need to be wary of one Richard Fourie who is strong, well-balanced and has the neccesary instinct to win races - please don't tell me he has the powerfull Snaith yard behind him as may other jocks have had that job - His stats with Marcus were also top class and his rides out of stable are just as good - He is the type of Jockey that could ride internationally and hold his own -

Richard is by far the best to come out of the acamedy in many a year, unfortunately the chances are that we will loose him as we have with most our top riders...

We all agree that Strydom is a master jockey, however i agree with G-man on the commentators adulation of Strydom.
More often than not you will hear the commentator screaming, "and Striker wins it", almost as if there were no horse involved.
You hardly ever hear that about the other jockeys,
Reminds me of Kritsiotis screaming, "in the famous Jooste colours" but hardly ever a mention of any others.

He deserves the extra attention, not just because he's the best, but because he is in a league all his own.
That aside, it's a good thing for the commentators and other public mouthpieces to promote individuals as celebrity material. Look around, we're in a celebrity obsessed society and racing should be on the bandwagon, punting the cream of racing (both animals and persons) into the media mix – the writhing masses want fantasies of heroes and excellence. If you're looking to attract new customers to racing, what good is soft going and alumites on the racing page, last time I checked Joe Pubic doesn't read that section anyway. Get the effing stories into the gossip pages, tabloids, and other moist places the public go for scandal and panties.
