Major international bookmaker to launch in South Africa

The online bookmaker market is set to get more competitive with Victor Chandler poised to enter South Africa.

You can check out the article here www.sportingweb.co.za/sportingweb/view/s...3?oid=4573&sn=Detail (right click over link to open in a new window)

This must be good news for punters and it will hopefully spark more competition!May also be the catalyst for more to follow?

Cheers

Brent

I have an online account with VC bet and can confirm that they are good, although I do find that their tissue prices in some cases are as high as a point shorter than that of its competitors. Most times they will pay out seconds after the horse has crossed the line.

Do they reduce your limits like all the others, except for Hollywood (in my case), if you happen to find a winner or 3?

Yes they will reduce your limits (i am now down to bets of £50(online) with them)
Of course they want to enter this market betting at >140% must sound great to them
Will it stimulate competition ( i doubt it, infact i doubt this will go ahead, tax the whole offshore thing, local staff issues, BEE will put them off)
The online market is not a boyant in SA i dont know the official figs but i am sure most punters dont even go online
If they set up shops that wont lure most punters in either as i cannot see the average tote punter going into a betting shop for a football double
Bottom line is if they do go ahead this will be a massive learning curve for them, you see you dont actually get bookmakers in the UK (barring the on course guys) here theses guys are turf accountants that want to take bets from people that bet sentimentally ( my daughters name is fifi so ill back this horse cause its called fifi's princess) or ill take a frankie dettori treble he good is that frankie or the virtual racing costs them nothing and generates loads for them.

BOYS:
you should all be campaigning for BETFAIR to get their license they encourage winners, dont set limits look after their customers, are transparent.

if you start getting to good for them then they will reduce your bets online. On the telephone they will start reffering your call to a supervisor and in the shops if i am not mistaken then any bet over £500 gets called in anyway.

how was vegas?

I will never have that problem. One winner 10 losers thats me. Vegas was ok. Not much gambling done. The shows were good. The last time I was there was about 8 years ago and its changed so much.

i tried that ploy

i would have £2-5 pounds on random horses (online) then for the one i needed o would try to get the £300-500 and i would be knocked back. They are too sharp

You'd imagine VC would bring a decent size marketing budget, they are big on sponsoring races and on-course advertising.

I understand in SA that Phumelela have the right to veto any race sponsor and frequently have done in favour of the Computaform this, the Soccer 6 that and now the Racing Association's name keeps cropping up on the card. Not sure what GC's policy is.

Surely all racings stakeholders and new corporate blood should have the opportunity to market themselves and their products on a level playing field, it will be most interesting to see if that happens in the near future.

Another good thing about VC is that the football bets one can have is throughout the world..even 3rd division Scottish matches can be bet upon.

Chris, I could not agree more. In these situations trying to keep everything for yourself ends up limiting growth meaning a smaller cut for all role players.

Like you I am excited at what the arrival of VC Bet may mean for the racing and sports industries - as you pointed out the guys are not shy to market!

Sad to hear the news about Ernie Els though - www.sportingweb.co.za/sportingweb/view/s...2?oid=4600&sn=Detail
