pirates go down to your local tote and watch the guys bet looking at the newspaper pasted on a wall - in the room there are maybe two computaforms - i'm holding one and the other has still not been sold - the larger betting public do not want info - they spend their time watching for late betting moves and claims, working on favourite numbers and names, favourite jockey's regardless of how poor the form of the horse is - they hardly watch the running of the race and blame the jockey and trainer if their horse runs poorly - they spend their loot on every mount Dougie Whyte has in HK and every ride Detorri has in england - you are a form studier they are punters that will do their money with or without help this has been a pattern since gambling started that's why some win and some lose -

Cats I used to believe that the punters should get on first but saw first hand what owners go thru. Now a firm believer in taking the spoils after the owner, trainer and even the grooms get on.

Nania, god bless her, drifted in the betting last week and the punters followed suite - top horse top form but betting swayed their loot - They did their cash without bothering to work out why she was favourite in the first place

Pirates as Mr H says, he (and I too when my time comes) doesn't have a problem with sharing information once on - but not before. And if not quite ready, sharing that info as well. Which I humbly submit is fair enough.
As for the 'lets all stick together' idealism - when people come up to me and give me a bunch of rands toward the upkeep of a Horse, I'll recepricate.

I have experienced that it is mostly the trainer that gets on first, then informs his owner. Through the huge bets of the trainer, the bookie sniffs something, shortens the horse and the owner gets on at the claimed price.

Y does someone buy a horse?1 betting coup? With so many syndicates, confidentiality will wane.
Even if an owner/trainer revealed his horse had a big chance, how much will the average joe wager?

This subject will be argued till the end of time I guess, but would I be right in saying that, whichever view you have on this subject, truth should prevail.
In other words,if any connection is not prepared to share the info they should either decline the interview OR state they would prefer not to comment. It is surely wrong to deliberately mislead or blatantly lie!

MISLEAD, LIE. I am amazed that people can go on and on about such a stupid topic of who said what who should not have said this and that. Horses spring up on people. Everyone is guessing what the trainer said to Laff. I distincly heard on the TV, has a quartet chance. Why should they share their information. Everyone is so sour because they ALL backed the second horse. Shame, tough, stiff call it what you like, accept the defeat and move on for goodness sake. Everyone is making out like it is the first time a trainer has been wrong. So what good luck to them, he is a top trainer and does very well and has improved horses out of sight e.g: Island Groove and St Raphael at least the man has training ability.
