Hopefully these top trainers will someday have a workshop with our younger guys to share some of that knowledge so that the small guy that flukes a big horse knows how to bring him to the next level (if any do wish to offer some time to talk to the younger guys the guys are ready to listen - i know of some people that would love to set something up like this)

I would love to hear one sensible explanation as to why MdK would be motivated to knock Basil. He surely has nothing to gain and sure as hell has nothing to prove.
MdK may be lots of things, but stupid is not one of them and I can't believe that it has been construed as criticism of one trainer instead of praise for another!

understand your comment totally!!! De Kok is an amazing trainer a genius!!! but could have just said "Herman did an amazing job in dubai with JP"., no one has anything to prove.

Really interesting,missed the KT show.
When SunC won 1st race in Dubai,MBass was acknowledged as the ex trainer in an interview.
The racecards always listed HW Brown as the trainer of JPeg.

Coverage on WCN wrt B Marcus, was a tribute to a great international jockey turned trainer and how his role contributed to success on a mega event. How can one now forget the Brothers Marcus?

I've great respect for Mdk,but i suppose he was just upset that victory was grasped away from his charge. If ever MDK was bold,it was with reference to the heart condition of a particular horse!

Puffin stated "but to publically say basil wouldnt have achieved what herman did is really poor" I didnt hear the interview but it appears as if MDK did not actually say this.

Maybe Puffin knows something we don't but it looks like MDK was badly misquoted.

I for one think Basil did a brilliant job to keep Jay Peg sound for his 3 year old career and win all those races. Not sure what went wrong as a 4 year old.

Dubai was very interesting and I think Jay Pegs success was a combination of being prepped better than the rest, getting a great ride from one of the best jockeys in the world and the race being a highly tactical affair. I have never seen a horse get swallowed up by the field and come back and win like that...

Everyone has his own opinion, but what I have heard MdK say was degrading towards Basil Marcus. It seems to me MdK places himself on a pedestal above the rest (which he may be entitled to do). He must remember everyone has to start somewhere, and Basil has done better then most.
However me thinks we must congratulate everyone for a job well done, from the base(Marcus) to the crown(Brown).
Lets bathe in the glory and forget the negativity.

Mdk only said HERMAN did not get the recognition he deserved in the post race from Basil. In effect Basil did the post race interveiw where he intimated he had prepared the horse. Not correct, Herman trained the horse at the carnival!

martin, basil did not do that, please read the truth. Lets not forget that in the cape season it was the first time in history three brothers had one a group one in that way. lets drop this and celebrate the horse his amazing owners that support south african racing. cant wait till the day everyone can share the success of horses winning great races owned trained or bred by a memeber of ABC
