....pure and plain extortion ....now electricity has become another luxury just like petrol and food...:dry: .....phukem going to return the couch and flat screen to get the solar panels and batteries....during that Gupta era they installed cumbersome monitoring devices on the outside distribution boxes at huge costs that never even worked(they planned to control excess usage by remote shut off but found that mass load shedding had a better effect)..... then they later installed smaller devices inside.... and this little device also acts as a meter and automatically sends readings via cell SSD to them for billing....the bills are still never accurate....and to top it all, we still get paid ESCOM contractors wanting to read the non existent external meters that were removed and replaced by this new system....:S

I read somewhere that all solar items need to be registered (and payment made to municipality for them) so one is never totally off-grid...

Our power went off at 11.00 this morning went past pub for a charge (in more ways than one ) and power went off 13.00

Absolute shambles and disgrace!!!

....they will eventually get what they have asked for.....biggest extortionists in the land.....govt folded for a SAA bail out...... ESKOM next in the QUEUE.....then TRANSNET....and so it goes....on and on....:sick:

Not one SOE is run properly....they all just suction of taxpayers while 'management' creams it!

Yip, but no one needs SAA - even though the new guy is making all the right noises (saying they will start turning a profit in 3 years, seems to have been closing down the leaks etc), but in the end if it is choice between bailing out ESCOM or SAA, I think the vast majority of South Africans will opt for bailing out ESCOM - much bigger impact on the economy - unfortunately the SAA bail out has already happened - so not sure how much is left for ESCOM

.....my wife tells me that Pravin Gordhan lives in our neighborhood.....after he gave his speech and dressed down ESCOM top management yesterday by cancelling their Christmas leave and telling them to sort out this load shedding debacle.....they promptly turned off the power in our area an hour later.....
they showed him who's..... really the boss......:oops: .

Muhtiman, I must be living close to you too as our lights went out as well .!!!

......I live 1km from ESCOM head office.....did not think they would cut power here so often....:huh:
.....they don't even have back up power because on Monday the access security booms being electronically driven were not working so they turned visitors and contractors away.....only one gate was opened manually for staff to enter.....:S

We are OFF AGAIN !!!
