Run Fox Run

“Unbeaten three-year-old RUN FOX RUN has had her rating increased from 91 to 104 after she soundly beat her rivals in the Olympic Duel Stakes, a Listed handicap for fillies and mares over 1200m at Kenilworth on Saturday. The Handicappers have little doubt that she is well worthy of her new rating after four impressive wins from as many starts.”

Was hoping to see her run in the KZN winter season, maybe allow her time off for the Cape season. No doubt she looks special.

Does that rating look fair/right Bayern?

Not talking potential but after winning a listed event, 104???

I am not a handicapping expert, however (and without looking at previous books), her increase before Saturday's victory, the handicapper/s may have applied the maximum permissible from one division to the division she ran against. Bear in mind two runs back, she was actually eased up by Marcus, and that did not escape the handicappers attention. The same may apply after Saturday's victory, the handicapper can only apply whatever the maximum is. In essence, she could be even better than currently rated because the handicapper's hands are tied.

Very difficult to judge her true ability - on her run this last weekend and based on Rush Hour Girl, I'd make her about 101 - but she won so easily that she could be capable of much better

Please note the following,

When assessing Graded, Listed or Non Black Type Feature races, the Handicappers reserve the right to deviate from the Guidelines where they believe that it is in the best interests of conforming with NHA Rule 47.3.2 to do so, with particular reference (but not limited to) “unexposed” horses.

Also note unplaced horses merit ratings also can be increased. So no more running under the radar.

Her previous run, Marcus eased her up so blatantly (winning by just 0.75 L)that I gave her a 5L winning margin, and hence a 95 rating- the handicappers used a 3L notional margin and gave her 91. This time, Cheyne at least kept her rolling, but she still won unextended. This wasn’t a great field for a listed race, and most of the field were running over trips short of their best. I agree with Frodo that Rush Hour Girl is the best benchmark, and on that basis the 104 looks reasonable, and I would think that RFR still has plenty of improvement to come. The interesting question for me is whether she is a pure sprinter, or whether she would get a mile.

You will go down in my annals as one of my most favourites.
Retiring to Ireland and a covering with Frankel or Kingsman - wow.
