Did "THEY" know

Beau De Jour opens 4/1 in the betting;
Drifts to 9/2
Then 5/1
then 6/1
then 7/1

The horse bounces out of the stalls, and Karl keeps a tight hold, then the horse steadily drops through the field.

Halfway round the turn, Karl starts pushing, then gives him a smack with the whip...

As they turn into the stretch, he pulls the horse up, looking down at the horses legs!!

Now if "somebody" knew that the horse was not right [HENCE THE MASSIVE DRIFT] why not scratch the horse?

Yes, it did hit my pocket, but surely the drift was a telltale sign the horse was not 100%, so why run it?

I would appreciate anybody's opinion!

Thanks

I hate conspiracy theories but this is a fair observation.

What price did you get Yeldah - out of interest?

I will try and get a comment from Brett and pop it in the Sporting Post this week.

Cheers

I'd personally give the benefit of the doubt.

Maybe the Horse not quite self, without any obvious physical signs.

However, come the additional 'race pressures' the Horse Felt the underlying problem and Karl pulled the Horse up lame.

No one wants to lose a Horse on purpose - as there is always another race.

So as I say, it's the benefit of the doubt for me.

Respectfully, Jim.

Gruberger, I got 9/2, as I backed it early; silly me, as I thought the horse had an undeniable winning chance, and hence would find support which would see the price shorten.

I bankered it in my PA, which if it had run into the first three, I would have won four times [It paid R171 and the favourite won the race]...

Cheers

Yeldah I don't know how you go from pulled up lame to cheat mate.

And all Cat told was how it is - and yes it is gambling = no outcome is 100%.

Anyhow, as far as 'gambling' per se, we all know it's a mugs game - look the 2nd part of @Cats name - lol!

Catsmug, I understand that you have years of experience in this game, and I have always respected that.

Clan Classique; I was just disappointed.

Beau De Joir; I just wanted other people's opinions of the drift if taken in conjunction with the horse pulling up lame.

Your Opinions are always welcome; your Insulting comments unfounded & unnecessary!

I await your next witless response!

Hi Yeldah

I just spoke to Beau D Jour's trainer Brett Crawford.

He confirms that the horse was examined post-race and found to have a heart murmur or atrial fibrillation .

He also said he would never run a horse knowing he was not medically ok and said that one could ruin a horse putting him under pressure with a medical condition such as this.

As regards the betting drift, he suggested that we speak to the bookies and said that Karl Neisius or anybody else that determined that the horse had a heart problem prior to the race without an examination, would have to be a genius.

I am not going to put the story in the Sporting Post as there is nothing much to say.
Hope this makes you feel better - even if your money and pa are gone for good.

"never run a horse knowing he was not medically ok"

Just as I said Yeldah - and if you start to beleive otherwise, then it's definately time to stop punting mate.

Hell, it's hard enough trying to find a bloody winner, without working out possible reasons for a'drifter' - lol!

Hope to see you next Turffies visit mate - Jan???
