Take nothing away from Lerena,he's a damn good jockey,but he will go down in the archives as the jockey who assaulted a fellow rider in a race and managed to escape punishment long enough to win a South African jockey title... that's if he wins the championship mind you.
The NHA need to change these rules.... I mean why are you waiting weeks for inquiries ...The event happens just like any other sport so sanction immediately and then appeal must be held within a week - do you need expert witnesses when a jockey bumps a horse or strikes another jockey... the quicker you sentence riders the more likely they are to perform professionally ... I'm even so hard-core that i would say rides engaged before the suspension are null and void... i bet if the NHA take this hard stance you will find in less than a month riding improves... I don't blame any of the jocks who are gaming the system - that's the NHA's fault - And the irony is punters lose their cash in real time yet they must wait months or years to see if those involved are going to be punished - It's as embarrassing as Doping in Boxing...
