Here's one for you . Shortest priced favourite in the last 30 July's ? It's something they always mention in the big handicaps here .

Yes I think Jackson carried 57Kg ,burnt out top of the straight ,Jackson was short priced favourite.

Your claim is not correct, Politician won carrying 57.0 in 1978. Back then, to win with "heavier" weights must have been so much more difficult as some horses carried less than 50.0kgs. The handicapping system also changed to the current Merit Rating system where there is a maximum and minimum spread between the top and bottom weights. It doesn't necessarily mean, if a horse carries 57.0 or more, it has no winning chance. 

Right now, 8 on 18 is the best weighted horse in the race, and must have as good a chance as any of winning the race.

Many have won with more...Mareresco 60kg... Heavy Metal 59.5kh..etc....and then you have Legislate winning carrying 56,kg and in my opinion the horses 8 on 18 is facing are not as good as those that Legislate "beat"....he has beaten them in the met and has improved so he can carry the extra weight....one thing that can beat him is if the pace is stop start.... As he's a big guy coming from behind so if the pace is not on and they make him change strides that could derail him....but as things stand only an improving young horse could bother him as he had the older horses at the weights
 

That Met he won hasn't produced a single other winner to date. 
Legislate did not technically manage to win with 56.
Eight on Eighteen because of his high merit rating since the Met hasn't faced any proper opposition since , for obvious reasons. 

The only way he wins this is is if he's an exceptionally talented horse, as some have suggested. But I can't find any concrete evidence to substantiate that as yet. 

His odds are based on sentiment more than anything and presents very little value in my opinion. Aside from the weight hurdle, his running style makes him vulnerable as well. 

This is actually fascinating, and I never realized this. You're right, there was not a single winner that emerged from the MET field this year.
