Johannesburg, South Africa — It was with enormous sadness that the racing community woke to the news that multiple East Cape Champion trainer Gavin Smith had passed away on Sunday, 19 October.

In his honour, we will be observing a minute’s silence ahead of the first race at Fairview this Friday and jockeys will be riding with black armbands.
