Cheltenham 2023 DAY ONE

1 year 1 month ago - 1 year 1 month ago

Good morning all and the biggest jump festival on the planet gets underway tomorrow: Tuesday 14th March.

We have had other threads building up to the event, link below and my thoughts are much the same.

www.africanbettingclan.com/forum/south-a...ines-gift-cheltenham

As far as day one

Race one: Supreme Novice Hurdle
We have a SA runner from Hollywood and Dev will be at the track and hope for some pics from the parade ring and hopefully the winners box.
IL ETAIT TEMPS has the form to beat the Mullins stable favourite FACILE VEGA , plus MARINE NATIONALE should make the boxed trifecta.

Race two: Arkle
Should be a match race between JONBON and EL FABIOLO.

Race three :
Very open event and I am taking a chance with the very promising INTO OVERDRIVE at 8/1.

Race four: Unibet Champion Hurdle
CONSTITUTION HILL is the real deal and STATE MAN should make the champ run.

Race five : Mares Hurdle
HONEYSUCKLE can win this, this will be her 19th and last run and let's not forget she has been the champ for years winning 16 from 16 and only two under par runs has avoided the Champion Hurdle.
It won't be easy and expect a big challenge from MARIES ROCK and EPATANTE.

Race six : this is a potential field race but for smaller perms TEKAO, BYKER and BAD look best.

Race seven : we have a potential banker to win the National Hunt race GALLIARD DU MESNIL.

I am also giving a couple of exotics for small stakes as day one looks favourable to the punters.

PA
5,8 x 3,6 x 9 x 1x 4 x 2,5,8 x 4 is R12 x 5 = R60

Pick 6
1
3-4-6
Field includes 2 emergency runners
4

Perm Max R72

Good Punting 👍

If the weather forecasters are right, 50% of the time they are, then from Wednesday it’s going to be a wet Cheltenham with snow fall early on Tuesday morning

Get some stake money for tomorrow.

7.00 Wolverhampton -  *DIVINE RAPTURE* (7/2-10/3)

A good message for this James Tate trained filly who was well backed when making a successful debut and has come out of that race in fantastic form since.

The yard have been firing on all cylinders over the past week or two and despite the fact this filly now has to shoulder the penalty James is confident she has more than enough ability to follow-up this evening with a good draw to work from in stall 5 and the excellent Rossa Ryan in the saddle again. The stable have some outstanding looking two-year old's for the season ahead and there's plenty to look forward to from there over the coming months.

Win or lose for Il Etait Temps, Echoes In Rain and Gust Of Wind (Friday) there will be lots of Guinness drunk by all South Africans for all four days.

Having recently taken his maiden Grade 1 win at Leopardstown beating current favourite Facile Vega, Il Etait Temps, the Hollywood Syndicate horse in partnership with Barnane Stud, returns to Cheltenham today at 15:30 SA time in the Sky Bet Supreme Novices Hurdle. The purple team will be cheering him on. 🏇🏻

Todays is the Mares Hurdle. Before Epatante and Honeysuckle there was Dawn Run. Although Dawn Run is way before my punting time, to me she remains the best ever Mare of National Hunt racing. The only horse to win, The English, Irish and French Hurdles but it is her Chase Cheltenham Gold Cup victory will cement her place as one of the greats of both sexes and remains the only horse to do the Champion Hurdle and Gold Cup double.

Champion Hurdle

Gold Cup
