Holiday Destinations

Big and small businesses in the tourism industry are bleeding. Tourvest reports a 15-20% drop in inbound revenue, while Thompsons Africa, part of listed Cullinan Holdings, reports a 25% drop in inbound volumes.
Statistician-General Pali Lehohla on Tuesday reported a drop of 5.6% in foreign visitors in the second quarter of 2015 compared with Q1 and 14.3% in April compared with April 2014.
This confirms the Tourism Business Council’s (TBCSA’s) Tourism Business Index that recorded for the second quarter the lowest index score since the third quarter of 2011. A score of 83.6 was recorded as opposed to a ‘normal’ score of 97.3. Industry expectations for the current quarter (Q3) are even lower at 80.6 index points.
The poor performance in the second quarter follows a 6% drop in the first quarter compared with the previous quarter that, according to Grant Thornton Advisory Services, means 150 000 less foreigners visited South African during that period, resulting in a revenue loss of R1.6 billion.
The decline is ascribed to the effect of Ebola, safety, economic weakness in source markets and the implementation of new visa regulations requiring travellers to personally appear to supply biometric information and unabridged birth certificates for children.

With the exchange rate so good for a holiday to SA,you would think it would be the other way round, but after the attack on holidaying English husband and wife hitting the news over here I can't see it improving. She was killed and he left in a very bad way.
Then we had a TV programme showing gangs marauding around on drugs stabbing each other and not a policemen in sight.
Why go somewhere when you are in constant fear in a country run by a load of racist shitheads.

Is that right,I thought your president Zuma sang that highly charged song. Not 100% sure, but isn't about shafting the white man.
Didn't the Zulu warrior with the ironic name encourage carnage against foreigners.
If those two ain't shitheads, what are they Naresh.

Maybe just call this thread off as I can see where its going
Yes the SA white leaders messed SA up good and proper and yes the SA black leaders are messing it up in their way and yes the British leaders have messed up most of the world. So call it a draw and move on.

A token gesture perhaps to the SACP for the years of support they received in the past and the cosy relationship they currently have with Russia and China ??!!

We are carrying so much baggage from our past that it is preventing any forward movement now and into the future and the elderly who, in the main, carry this baggage due to the terrible experiences they have had will not be around to live through the future consequences thereof...
I worry for the futures of those that are young now...we (my generation) have "lived" our 40-50-60 years whilst they still have more than that to live and if we continue to look into the past, we cannot prepare for their futures...

England cricket team there over the summer so I can imagine there will be at least 40k English fans there at the same time. Very good for the economy. Turn your pub into a cricket theme Dave when they play in Pretoria.

The cost and inconvenience of sorting out new visa requirements is not enticing tourists despite the plummeting exchange rate...Judge Dennis Davis had a panel discussion thereon on his program Judge for Yourself...tourist numbers from India and China have dropped off by more than 20% as only two places in China where biometrics can be done for visa (I didn't hear how inconvenient it is in India)...
