Today was probably the worst riding I have seen by the muppet Purton, and that's saying a lot.
Moreira out rode him in nearly every race and so did many others.
How this clown gets such good rides and Lyle has to sit on 100-1 shots is beyond me.

Firstly you're acting like he's forced to be there.
Second this happened the last time he was there as well. Unfortunately he's not always gna be on Sean Tarry pointers and the quality of rider you're up against is not gna be the same as here.
Third I'm not sure, but I'm fairly certain, that he's making more money there riding these outsiders than he is here by even winning group races?

Lyle Hewitson 52 rides 1 winner 2 2nds 1 3rd 7 4ths and 1 5th 1.59 million HK dollars
Luke Ferraris 6 wins 13 2nds 14 3rds 9 4ths and 9 5ths 10.5 million HK dollars

So Lyle with his stats has earned over 3 million rand in stakes
Luke around 20 million in stakes
Say 10% of winnings Lyle has earned R300 000 and Luke R2million without riding fees in one season.
The money is on a different planet compared to ours

Grant Behr has similar stats to Lyle and his share of the stakes here in SA would be R15 000
So Lyle earns about 20 times more

Luke Currie has a win and a 5th for 629 000 HK dollars.
So lets say the win was worth 600 000HK dollars which is 1.2 million rand.
One win and you have pocketed yourself a cool R120 000 if they get 10% of the stakes.
Who in their right mind wouldn't ride there if asked?

I think he is there with an ambition to end up in Japan with a temporary license. He did well in Japan before.

To get a permanent license in Japan is difficult. You have to take a Japanese culture and language test. Moreira failed the test. Lyle did extremely well in his Matric exams though and who knows!

Hope Hewitson does well as he is a good jockey with a good manner about him and he's South African so he has our support...have to be mindful that he got some of the best rides here and had a win% of about +-12%...don't think he was going to leap-frog more established (thought not necessarily better) jockeys there in terms of the mounts he gets...

As an aside, I wouldn't put my trust in matric exams anymore...not the benchmark of one's ability...often over-states a person's ability...read a report on the success of those with Bachelors passes when they get to university...only 1 in 4 (about 26%) achieve their under-graduate qualifications in minimum period...yes, there are many factors for this but primarily it is because too many get Bachelors passes when they really shouldn't be...

Durbs when I see that then I think maybe there is something to the horse quality they are riding, because Lyle for sure is a better jockey than Luke, at this stage. The stakes and results don't reflect that.

Luke is a very good jock but I agree Lyle probably better at this stage.
Lyle is just not getting any decent chances, put him on all of the muppets rides for one meeting and I'm nearly 100% sure he will give the horses better rides.
Today Purton rode like a real amateur.Moreira had his horses most times better positioned than him and beat him in all the races except one.
Purton has got to be the most overrated rider ever and if Lyle is just given a chance I'm sure the trainers will start having faith in him and then we can see Purton riding the donkeys instead of Hewitson.
