THE future of horseracing at Jagersro racecourse, home ofthe Swedish Derby, is in doubt.

The Malmo-based track is at the centre of a dispute between the two organisations which run racing and trotting at the course, Skanska Faltrittklubb and Skanska Travsallskapet

Members of the trotting group voted on Monday not to renew a co-operation contract, which brings to a head the less than harmonious working relationship the two sports have had at Jagersro in recent years.

As things stand, horseracing at Jagersro, situated in the Skane region of the southernmost tip of Sweden, will come to an end on September 30, 2012.

Hans Hansson, president of Svensk Galopp which runs horseracing in Sweden, said: "Horseracing in Skane is extremely important to us and we will never drop it. We will find a solution which will make our trainers and owners feel secure.

"We want the 'galopp' sport to live on at Jagersro. Skane accounts for 50 per cent of our sport in Sweden and has had racing there for 120 years, of course it will remain."

Horseracing and trotting have existed side by side at Jagersro for 100 years and Hansson said: "I believe it is economic madness to throw out galopp from Jagersro, with costs for maintenance and construction now being carried by one organisation rather than two. It will also mean job cuts."
