Missed that announcement but welcome news (whoever applied the pressure to reverse that travesty deserves a pat on the back).
Not sure whether Mick's brother in law, ex RA chairman, Bruce Gardener could tell us how it came about that the "Charge of the Mick Brigade" had Listed status in the first place but I suppose it doesn't matter now.
Small world in SA racing.

It'll still be very nice to win a Bar though!
As for 'listed' or otherwise, the quality of some of those horses at the sale will probably mean that inmvho - it'll take a 'listed' ability type of horse to win said race.
So I can understand why it was intiatally touted as 'listed'.
However, not being that up on the way these things work, from the 'noise' generated at the time, I remember some thought that such a race couldn't be classified as such.
I personally think that the sale generated a lot of 'heat' and anything that does that - ultimately can only be good for the game.
As I say, it'll take a very good Horse to win that race, and I dare say the Bar will be a nice consolation for the connections.

Not sure but i would suggest they race this season's races under the old rules as it is also not fair on the owners that doshed out cash on horses(especially fillies) hoping to sneak some black type - maybe racig Sat are you going Cat

I think we should be encouraging sponsorship. So hope this does not stop him sponsoring his race.

As I said previously, the bar will be some consolation - although Cat also has a point in terms of some buying top lots to have a stab at the big prize.
I, like quite a few, have a leg from said sale - do I think she'll win it - prob not. Do I like the fact that I have a chance to have something running for such a large prize - Heck yeah lol! Gotta be in it - to win it.
I believe that whoever wins said race will go on to win a 'Listed' race - anyone want to lay me odds?
Also as I stated above, like Syvester says - such sponership should be encouraged. I ceretainly believe that Mr Goss is very much part of the future sollution, not problem with Racing, and as such, should not only be encouraged but quite frankly applauded, for having such a great idea, that quite simply gets people like me from 6,000 miles away interested in SA racing.
Jim.

Compare the form of the horses in the Dingaans(GrII) and that of the restricted race (grI) - i know which lot i think will train on - i'd like to race any of the first five finishers in the Dingaans against all of those in the restricted race for a living - i do believe i'd never have to work again!! it's explotation of the system and very good that it was stopped before it got out of hand- imagine if world cup night in Dubai was restricted to only horses bred by the Royal family it would have died years ago - how it could have been allowed in the first place was beyond me as everyone knew that one vendor would send out the majority of entrants on the sale

I agree for this year- but we need to know why this was permitted in the first place -

Mr H. I think it was probably permitted due to the excellent 'exposure' it generated around the world - plain and simple.
I'm glad that you agree with Cats that it should be 'Listed' this year, due to the terms and conditions of those that bought this year.
As far as the future - if as part of the conditions of entry something like:
"A Winner with a minimum of an 85MR Rating" were added - would it then be ok to become 'listed'? Or is it purely due to the 'restricted' nature of being only for Horses purchased at the R2R sales that said 'Listed' status cannot be given?
Mr H. As I said above - I'm not too up on these matters, so I look forward to your response.
Cheers, Jim.

I have no problem with the race having graded status this year but only because of the innocent buyers involved. The concept is a good one in essence but the timing of the sale means that many of the top horses(too late in the year) would never be placed on the sale. I have no problem if the race is restricted to graduates in the future as long as there will be no graded status afforded to the placed horses. This should stil provide a huge incentive to buyers.
