The way I see this now is that the RA will have to insure the well been of all the owners that have horses stabled at turf as they seen more then happy with night racing ! Ie lighting, sound proofing etc? I still see on problem with them racing! Look we are based at 1000 start we dont have horses racing etc around their boxes when we race! We leave our boxes open on the right side of our yard they watch the horses ! But I am sure all the trainers needs and concerns will be looked into!

I'm prepared to give them a chance regardless of past issues - the important thing is that something positive is being done - remember we do race at turffs almost every weekend and how much crime has anybody experienced personally in this time? We need night racing so give them your support if they fail take them to task in the strongest possible manner!!!!!

please mate i race there so often and have never had any problem with crime - do you race in the back streets of turffontein or on track - have you taken a trip to Bruma or Hollwwood Benoni - you will find "Nigerians" taking hefty soccer bets - Get real crime is part of South Africa and i'm not sure of any punter that goes driving around the back streets of turffontein at night - how many Nigerians do YOU know that have hijacked vechicles or mugged people - get real these guys are drug dealers they would not shoot you as you could be their next customer - I personally don't socialise in turffontein but as many of the REGULAR racegoers will attest am normally one of the last to leave as i enjoy having a few after the last - if you choose to drive into Turffontein to socialise after you leave the race course then face the music - more chance of you returning home to find your house has been burgled while you were out for the night.
I am very central in my views but i can't abide people that choose to create panic just for kicks - If you don't want to go racing at turffontein then stay home - If any of the REGULAR ABC racegoers have suffered from criminal activity while at Turffontein then please post - I have not touch wood- Perhaps you should clean your glasses and realise that we live in africa and you need to be sharp to survive - stay home and watch from the safety of your couch!!!!

mr h my comments were tongue in cheek but now you mention it yes i do know several people who have been the victims of crime in the vicinity of the course. for example a bookie was recently attacked and riobed in the pavillion on a non race day, a racing personality was attached outside the jockey club building recently and silks was attacked and robbed. i am sure you know of these events. they are mot isolated incidents and are indicative of the area in general in which the course is situated.

somehow i suspect i will not be the only one watching from the safety of my home. this was not the case at newmarket.

I suggest you stay at home permenantley as you obviously do not realise that crime is central to south african life and the racecourse on race night is what we are discussing - not the vicinity - i'm sure you remember the murders on the rivonia off ramp - i may be mistaken but as far as i know the real estate in Sandton did not go down because of it - All i'm saying is that thousands of people go to ellis park to watch a rugby test which is a far more dangerous area - at turffontein you park in a protected parking lot with permenant security (my car has often been the last in the lot) and then you drive down the road to the highway now where is the danger in that - sometimes just trashing something makes people feel good =- for me i'd rather critise when if is fair not just to make mischief - i know i don't often go off like this but many posts on ABC have huge merit but the idea of crime being a factor is negligable at best and should not even be of concern to racegoers unless they fancy a "takeaway" after the last. And while you're at it stay away from Bedford Centre, Eastgate and some of the major Casinos which have been robbed at gunpoint-

Not sure Cat as my route to the highway is normally very safe as i've stated on many occassions Metro cops often set up road blocks on both sides of the Race track and my biggest fear being stopped in one of these not getting robbed but i did enjoy Newmarket though i did find traffic horrfic if the first race was run too early. As we know we can't get the track back so it's pointless thinking on it - My reason for lamenting the demise of the track is NOT NIGHTRACING but rather the frairness of the track which gave all types of runners a fair shake.

Mr h, your attempted defence of Turfontein as a safe venue is admirable but it remains a shit-hole, Elevation Room and all.
We have had to settle for 2nd best again thanks to the RA/Phumelela shag-mates stuffing us all with the needless surrender of Newmarket.
We will keep reminding them of their greed and short-sightedness even though many say, 'let bygones be bygones'.
We will also keep reminding 'them' that their actions are being constantly scrutinized to try prevent future plundering of our assets and neglect of our racing.
