STRANGE BUT TRUE
The extraordinary phenomenon of no horse managing to finish the course in a straightforward flat race is problably unprecedented.
But a race took place in Malta in February 1969, in which there were 3 'runners' but apparently no 'triers'.
Connections weren't talking, but the assumption was that not one of the horses involved in the race was 'off' that day.
The race was supposed to be a sprint, but with very little of the race still to be run, and the three horses neck and neck,one suddenly slowed to a halt and his jocky dismounted.
Almost immediatly the second jocky did likewise leaving the third horse cruising to victory - until with just yards to go, the leader veered to one side and his jocky also dismounted!
All 3 horses were led over the finishing line by their reins and the event was declared 'no race', all stakes being returned.
The three jockeys had their licenses withdrawn and all three owners were subsequently warned off!!
AND WHOSE TO BLAME? MUST BE ESKOM!!
