i presume the mare was in foal or had the filly at foot or did he plan the mating before importing her?If he did then it is indeed breaking news as he then planned the mating and should be credited with having bred her no matter where she was conceived

Foaled and raised at Widden Stud, Sun Classique was bred by prominent South African owner/ breeder Lionel Cohen who purchased her dam Elfenjer for just $32,500 at the 2003 Inglis Broodmare Sale.

Offered in foal to Sunday Silence’s high class son Fuji Kiseki (Jpn), Elfenjer was sent to Widden where she produced Sun Classique from that mating and another filly by Galileo (IRE), before all three horses were transferred to Cohen’s care in South Africa.

The dam was bought in foal at the time and the point is that Mr Cohen had the foresight to identify a bloodline that would be useful for his south african stallions hence the importation - i'm sure this great breeder would not take credit for a mating that he had little to do with though his astute purchase of the mare shows the keen eye of South African breeders as does the deal with Rich Man's Gold and Fort Wood among others - you cannot breed in issolation so importation is neccsary but when you have all the ingredients in place as we now have it's time to produce a locally bred (conceived) Champ

Breaking news to me was Rippling Ring (Saumarez) running over the jumps now that's good news as we have cracked a market that seemed impenetrable
