It will be a pleasure to have more meetings on our weekly Phumelela card.
The crime factor will be a issue but can be resolved with proper risk analysis.

I say yes to racing! My only problem is safty outside of turf. Got to say its improved leaps and bounds inside.say scotia Hows the bus?

Looking forward to it, I miss Newmarket, and yes the bus is the answer for me.

Won't attend the meeting at night because of area.

As long as the well-being of the horse is the no. 1 priority.

I too am for it.

However, as Cuckoo says the welfare issues of the Horse must be paramount, and hope that there will be some form of 'monitoring' to ensure they are not unduely stressed due to said night racing. For example, I'm not sure of the race times - but I for one wouldn't like to see the last race going beyond 9.30pm, as by the time things have been squared away, it will be getting on for 11pm at the Stable!

In regard of the security issues, I understand there will be police escorts etc. in place to minimise any problems outside the track. So all in all, I'm hopeful that things can be sorted out for all concerned.

Finally, the issue of a 'fair crack' to the stable staff, who will now have to work when originally off, will need to be fairly addressed - so that they are adequently compensated.

We did have racing at newmarket before so staff and transport are all issues that have been dealt with before - not sure how the actual welfare of horses will be affected as we've raced at night before(but turffontein stabled horses nay be affected - not sure how that is being dealt with)

If you have night racing and the lights go out as the favourite hits the front with a furlong to go..who do you blame? The supplier or the bookie?
