TV RACING TODAY.
16 years 1 week ago
Good morning to the CLAN.
I have been reading the UK papers this morning and they have a "bumper "13" race tv bonanza today", just for your info, we have 40?
Now the problem today is the following, we have a double local card with the big T and Kenilworth and what do we do? we go to Haydock for a "jump" meeting, you are aware I enjoy the jumps, but due to time restrictions this is not clever, in addition there is good racing from Ascot and Lingfield flat, and the ironic thing is that we cross to Lingfield at 17.20 after the two, group 3 feature races have been run.
Not very clever planning imvho.

Yes I am aware that only the first 3 races from Haydock are jumps, but we only have 10 mins between the races from Haydock and Kenilworth, with the Haydock race running at the same time as the canter past and Stan the Mans preview of "where do we go from here"?, which is a bloody good question!

Scotia
I am sure you are aware that the coverage is not about quality of racing for the enthusiasts but rather about quantity of racing to generate tote turnover. To me it makes perfect sense given who runs the tote and who controls coverage.
What is interesting is the crowds at racing in the UK given there is limited coverage on channel 4 and extensive coverage on the specialist channels, and extensive coverage in the bookies coupled with sophisticated betting markets where you can have a decent bet without moving the market. You have to ask what draws them to come to the course and pay entrance fees. It is not just punting but an entertainment experience.
The sooner our guys here realise this and split betting from the racing experience and entertainment as a stand alone the better. The focus on tote turnover as a be all and end all here is killing the game.
