NATAL DRAW POSITIONS

2 years 6 months ago
#826125
I'm just wondering if a survey has been done in NATAL re this relatively NEW draw position,
where horse # 1 = Barrier draw 01

how many NATAL trainers are in favour of this system ? ( the only province in the country to do this )

WAS this change FORCED onto the NATAL TRAINERS ?

i'd like to see a current survey on this topic.....

could this be the reason we see such shocking results & upsets in Natal ?

Nothing has changed except that the horse's number is dictated by his final draw. The weights are the same as the old way and the draws are done as normal so there is absolutely no difference except the way they are numbered.

Craig if you really think this then I'm slightly concerned.

You do realize, I'm sure, that the race is influenced by so many factors.
The way each jockey and trainer each read the race and decide to ride the race is influenced by what they see in the race card. I'm certain that after a relative infinite years of reading the form in one way and deciding which race to get your horse fully peaked for, how to position your horse in running during the race, and so on, a sudden change to this format for KZN only ABSOLUTELY has an impact on the race itself and subsequently the result.

difficult to get my head around this one - the top weight draws 7, instead of been no 1 in the race card it is now no.7 - and this changes .....what?
unless you are a numbers player

I agree with Craig, it should not change the outcome of the race itself - and in some cases like Maiden races, all carry the same weight anyway (unless of course there are 3 yr olds against older horses and/or females running in a race for males)

However, in most cases, from a punting perspective, I do not like it at all - in the rest of the country, one can see at a glance the way the weights have been structured without having to sort through the race to find out that no 7 is actually the top weight, or that no 1 is actually under sufferance - so the original question remains unanswered - who thought out this crap and what was the motivation for it ?

Not that it affects me much; because of this idiotic way of presenting a card, I almost never take a bet in KZN (bar the odd feature day which one can count on one hand in a year) - nowadays I would even rather take a bet in PE

I don’t like the numbering system either, but I agree with Craig. Why on earth would changing the number on the side of a horse cause an upset??

Using pole numbers as a saddle cloth number is a common practice in Harness Racing worldwide.

However the clown that implemented this system in KZN racing failed to realise that no weights are carried in this practice.

There is NO WAY ON EARTH that the way a race is published in a racecard can affect the results - It can and does confuse punters but there is NO CHANGE to the draw system only a change in how it is presented in the Form Guide.

It doesn’t change anything. If anything it’s a bit confusing,so one must take this into account when studying, that number could be bottom weight. It’s no problem for me.
I must confess that what makes it a bit easier is always knowing the draw. When the gates open you know where your horse is.

Just a question, when Hollywood took over this was when the change happened, was this not their decision being the same as USA racing. I seam to remember something at the time.
