Re: Rainbow Bridge retired
2 years 2 months agoRainbow Bridge what a legend
2 x Met wins (GR1)
2 x Gold Challenge (GR1)
Champions Cup (GR1)
Winter Triple Crown (GR3 x 3)
Drill Hall (GR2)
2nd in the Durban July, podium in 4 Queen's Plates
Correct me if i'm wrong Naresh
It never ran all three legs of the Winter Triple Crown. Won the first two legs. I see one of its other Graded win was the Grade 3 Matchem stakes.

.........apperently named from this poem....author unknown....a place halfway to heaven
The happy kisses rain upon your face;
your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.

Would have been great for the Rattrays if he had finally given them their elusive July win after 2 previous seconds with Celtic Grove and Yard Arm.
And whilst on the subject of the Rattrays - they are the only owners ever to own a horse that was odds on to win the July.

I'm seeing people moaning like donuts that their are only 12 runners in the Met this year...
I actually think that's about the average for the race recently ?
11 last year when the wonderful RB won the race
An why are people moaning about two horses not making the trip to Cape Town, that appear to have not trained on?
Let's just enjoy what's most likely going to be the best days racing of 2022
Like it is every other year!

Guys the met besides rainbow bridge who unfortunately had to be retired its the best horses in SA running. There are no Dbn or Gauteng horses that can match the Cape horses even Tarry De Kock and Peter will agree they have nothing. The July has abt 20 horses and abt half the field are no hopers anyway. Stop running Cape racing down its by far the best feature season this time of the year in the country.

I agree that it needs to be kept as a WFA contest, like the Queens Plate - this is where champions show their mettle; I know that some reckon a July winner is the ultimate, but to me the winner is the best weighted horse and can never match up to the winner (and even placed horses) in WFA contests like the Gold Challenge, Horse Chestnut and Hawaii Stakes
Imo a pity that something seemingly has gone wrong with Malmoos, as the notion that Gauteng runners can't match the Cape 'superstars' is not entirely correct (remember Queen Supreme) - it's just that at the moment, the Cape runners are superior - does not mean it will the same next year

The two horses not making the trip would've had a good shot at grabbing the fifth place cheque with some luck. Pity about that.

Cant recall if queen supreme ever ran in met.Definately won the paddock stakes easy so she was decent. How would we compare her with WOA. But guys no disrespect to the connections of WOA her whole program was so badly done should of been in the cape abt 2 months ago given a warm up into paddock stakes and if she won that have a go at the Met just like Paul Peter tried last year with Summer pudding. Why try and fly a horse in just crazy costs. But agree with some guys on WOA she could not win the summer cup which a mediocre horse ex Cape majestic Mozart nearly won how on earth could she win Met but we will never know now. But well done to Gareth van Zyl Greeff , Smith Van Vuuren and i think De Kock will bring sparkling water for stayers race ! Good for racing all the best clanners i love the coms on this forum. Hit them hard Met day !

Gave weight in Summer Cup (handicap)...would have received weight in Met (set weight)...(small) chance...
