Race 7: Classified Stakes 1600m

I don’t have a fancy here, but the market is betting like it’s only a 2 cornered contest and I’m not convinced of that. #4 SILVER STARDUST (1-1) has run two good races since relocating to the Peter stable and he can’t be knocked for either of those runs, but in terms of ratings he hasn’t achieved dramatic improvement in either of them and he is a 5 year old now. He can definitely win, but at 1-1 I’m AGAINST HIM. #1 SOUTHERN BLAZE (28-10) came with a late rattle to beat #4 last time. 2kgs worse off now though, he’s going to battle to maintain that advantage and he still has to prove himself at this trip, so I’M AGAINST HIM TOO.

I make #’s 2,5,6 and 7 all competitive here so I’m going to look for a result past the top two in the market.

SELECTION: Nil, but I’m against 4 and 1.

One of those meetings where I don't think one can take the form as gospel - no grass yet available for working at Randjies and I'm not sure what the state of play is at Turffontein and the Vaal  - thoughts:

R1: Quite a few can win here imo - I think the favorites are priced up too short - Pendragon has been a busy boy, improving with racing so has a chance imo; not much between the two fillies Southern Style and Heart and Mind (should prefer this 1000) imo; then we have the two at the top of the boards - I'm loading up in the BP.

R2: Of course Thunderstruck the one to beat on form - just a note of caution though that as per the trainer, this would be a grass gallop - so depending on how fit Prophet and Ridgerunner are, they could give him a go - while Kalahari Blue although seemingly outclassed here, at least has the benefit of a recent run

R3: Princess Ilaria good debut when unfancied - should be better this trip and from a fair draw and should prove hard to beat; Inner Sense could be the main danger as she is finding some market support, from Gimme the Flame (wide draw) and Memorial Day (pole position)

R4: Classified Stakes, and not a lot between these imo at the weights; Flag Bearer was narrowly beaten at this track last time and gets blinkers again - on a line through Ashanti Sword he looks to be the right one, but most of these rate some sort of chance

R5: Very little between the top 4 in the market and depending on the pace and luck in running, any one of them can win; watch out for Let There Be Light, who looks well in and could upset at best for her new stable

R6: Quiet Rebellion tries blinkers and looks hard to beat imo, given that she does handle the equipment; Kind Judy and Castle Durrow next best in a shallow race imo

R7: For me Silver Stardust looks hard to beat; should hold Southern Blaze; only dangers imo Berengaria and Sacred Valley.

R8: At least half the field have some sort of chance - I'm going wide

Enjoy

Race one.

Many that are going to be very speedy upfront.

Drop of time returning after gelding and was not laid off for much time after the cut,so probably working well back home.Should pounce on them at the 150m mark and win!!
