What excuse can this jockey have? Surely a lengthy ban?

Kempton last race. 3200m race. The jockey rides 700m to the home straight and then thinks it is the finish line coming up and rides the horse for his life as if the race is ending. Surely was not fit to ride - I can understand if it was a 1800m race, but 3200m?? Come on!

Jockey Neil Callan has been suspended for 12 days after riding a finish a circuit too early at Kempton on Wednesday evening.

The 44-year-old was riding 50-1 shot Ballet Blanc, trained by Amanda Perrett, in the 2m handicap (8.30), but mistakenly sent his mount for home with a circuit still to go.

Only 12 days because the horse was an outsider. The precedent is now set. Very light sentence.

I feel for the jock as I have been having the same problem for a while now.
Just when I think the finishing line is in sight I discover there’s another round to go.
When I was younger, the further the better, but now I'm confined to sprints.
Soon Ill be lucky to exit the parade ring.
