Let's say training fees and all other ownership costs were 25k that's besides buying the horse last seasons 918 runners works out to 22.5 bar a month in costs but made more than 10 bar less than that in stakes. I understand 2nd 3rd etc but even including the placings is it enough to even break even? Massive tax write offs? Help me understand how it's profitable for them?

your calculations are totally wrong....they do not have 918 horses running.....the horses that are racing have run in 918 races....they may be at a marginal loss but have fair product for us punters to punt on.....and a major win for their brand......advertised on tracks nearly every local race day......

OK that make sense then maybe 100 runners but multiple races I didn't think about that lol
