37 Active Trainers - My Guess - Added Zaki and Azzie
5 satilite Yards MDK,Bass,Kotzen,Nel,Kannemeyer
32 KZN based trainers
190 winners shared this season by these 37 yards

5 Satelite Yards 49 winners

32 KZN Yards
4 - zero wins this season
2 - 1 winner
2 - 2 winners
8 - 3 winners
4 - 4 winners
4 - 5 winners
8 - 6 or more winners as of 12 November 2025

I understand that Hollywood invest heavily in KZN racing. The Social Squad have added horse to the KZN ranks.
But unless other big owners invest in the KZN yards racing in KZN looks pretty gloomy.

857 Horses raced in KZN. 551 Horses raced in PE
KZN 276 only raced once. PE 136 only raced once KZN 32% vs. PE 25%
KZN 257 have raced twice PE 127 have raced twice KZN 62% vs. PE 48%
KZN 190 have raced 3 times PE 131 have raced 3 times KZN 84% vs. PE 72%
KZN 84 have raced 4 times PE 96 have raced 4 times
KZN 36 have raced 5 times PE 39 have raced 5 times
KZN 9 have raced 6 times PE 14 have raced 6 times
KZN 3 have raced 7 times PE 7 have raced 7 times
KZN Zero have raced 8 times PE 1 has raced 8 times

PE trainers race their horses more often. Why? Same type of stock. Why are KZN trainers not racing their horses more often?

Unless KZN trainers adopt a race more attitide they gonna find a lot less horse in KZN and many more in PE.

I see Hollywood have sent less horses this season to the small KZN trainers that have won plenty of races in the past for them. Ridgemont/Devin send to Greef/Crawford, Bortz with Snaith and now De Kock with the pick from Hollywood and Ferrie getting more,  Johnson mainly with Snaith.

Johnson investing in KZN breeding but not racing. Hollywood sending to trainers with obvious connections.

Obviously, it is every owners perogative.

Just makes me wonder, how many horses can any trainer do justice to?

I have always preferred smaller operations with good communication and focus, even on horses that may only able to win a few races. The highlight for me is beating the big stables and expensive horses. Nothing better than beating a 1.3m horse from a big yard with a 180k horse 😁

It would be interesting to do the same analysis 1 May 2025 - 31 July 2025 and exclude all polytrack crap.

KZN trainers as a collective with a handful of obvious exceptions cannot compete against the WC and Gauteng boys.

I personally believe that the quality of PE horse is better than off season KZN fields.

Hollywood donate a lot to keep the show going.
