So Far Away.......😎

So Far Away
Good morning, Clan.
Last weekend was spectacular, with Ka Ying Rising being the standout performance.
I’m not sure where it will run next — Ascot next year would be magical, though that feels far away.
What’s not far away is the Cox Plate, and it’ll be great to tune in for another good-vibe rendition of Sweet Caroline. The one to beat at Moonee Valley looks to be Viva Sintina, currently around 5/4.
Last year’s winner could well do it again, with JP McDonald aiming for a four-timer in the Cox Plate.
The off time is around 7:50, but I’ll set a reminder in the group.
British Champions Day was a bit erratic — those 200/1 and 100/1 shocks certainly kept things interesting — and Ombudsman was simply beaten by a better horse on the day.
As time moves on, I still hope to see my extended family in Scotland after we had to cancel the wedding trip due to my hospital “vacation”.
At this stage, the tickets remain valid until April/May next year — which feels so far away, though a trip to the grandkids in November is a far more realistic target. 🤔
Cheltenham also seems far away, but as we move out of the flat season, Willie Mullins should soon be unleashing his stars over the jumps.
Closer to home, Summer Cup Day isn’t far off, and I really must make the effort to get to Turffontein.
This weekend’s local racing will see me following Zietsman in PE.
One Giant Leap runs for George and Stergio and looks a solid each-way bet at around 5/1, despite the tricky draw.
It’ll have to beat the Richard Fourie mount sporting the old Sangster silks.
Devin mentioned the cap was different, but his partnership with Craig has had more hits than The Beatles — hopefully Ziets and Chad can “Work It Out”!
Golden Palm should be the star of the show, although it is impossible to punt at 1/10 ish.
We’ve also got Hollywood Durbanville on Saturday, where Konnichiwa looks the best bet of the day.
Overseas Racing
Good racing coming up from Doncaster on Friday and Saturday.
Keep an eye on Rising Power, Rapid Force, and Hawk Mountain — all look strong contenders. 👌
Politics
The recent revelations have been shocking — though I suppose we all knew this sort of thing had been going on since the Zuma/Gupta era.
Zuma’s been ordered to pay R29 million in court costs — but will it actually happen?
One thing’s certain: when Mchunu is lying, you can tell because his lips move. 🤥
Cele is on stage today — another real character — and these “silent witnesses” have revealed some jaw-dropping details.
Still, will anyone actually be jailed given our dreadful judicial system? 🤔
Here’s a song from the great Carole King — remember Tapestry?
Good punting, everyone. 👍
