Cape Met 2026: Ante-Post Value in Focus

The G1 Cape Met will be run at Kenilworth on the 31st January 2026.

Interbet are offering ante-post betting on the big 2000m race and alert punters may sense opportunity at the prices.

There are various approaches to betting ante-post. Some like to load up in the preceding weeks and take doubles into their main fancy; others pick out a few contenders and back them early against the field; each way merchants can try get the best of it by latching on to their W/PL choice if expecting them to shorten in the build up to race day.

Here is the betting offered by Interbet as of Friday 16th January 2026.

As a guide, the career best speed figure of each horse is provided.

A “form” star rating is also given with *** being best.

EIGHT ON EIGHTEEN - 3/1 s/s 116 **
THE REAL PRINCE - 9/2 s/s 117 ***
SEE IT AGAIN - 9/2 s/s 117 ***
SAIL THE SEAS - 5/1 s/s 112 **
REGULATION - 11/1 s/s 108 ***
THE EQUATOR - 16/1 s/s 102 **
OKAVANGO - 16/1 s/s 108 ***
GARRIX - 16/1 s/s 111 **
HOLDING THUMBS - 19/1 s/s 103 ***
HAPPY VERSE - 20/1 s/s 104+ **
GLADATORIAN - 25/1 s/s 113 **
OLIVIA’S WAY - 25/1 s/s 109 **
NATIVE RULER - 30/1 s/s 109 *
MAGIC VERSE - 33/1 s/s 107 **
OTTO LUYKEN - 33/1 s/s 103 **
COSMIC SPEED - 40/1 s/s 108 **
LEGAL COUNSEL - 50/1 s/s 103 **
SUGAR MOUNTAIN - 80/1 s/s 107 **
LEGEND OF ARTHUR - 100/1 s/s 103 *
LA PULGA - 125/1 s/s 102 **

The numbers can be massaged in different ways:

The average speed figure for the upcoming Cape Met is 108.

Historically, it takes a speed score of 108 or better to win this G1.

If you require that a genuine contender must rate within three lengths of the top rated (Eight on Eighteen, See It Again and The Real Prince sport a big edge with figures of around 116 - 117), then the contender cut off is 111.

That would bring Sail the Seas, Gladatorian and Garrix (only just) into the wider equation.

Obviously, there is more to it than just crunching numbers.

Thoroughbred physical condition on the day is vital; the draw, pace and jockeyship will play a role, too depending on changing weather and track circumstances. These are hard to foretell in advance.

That said, some successful punters are especially effective betting ante post by locking in sharp bets on live runners at generous prices.

The problem is the 140% over-round, so no value to punters
