WHY .....DONALD......WHY
3 weeks 1 day ago
Why, Donald… Why?
Good morning, Clan
We continue to navigate uncertain times across the globe — and it’s hard to recall a period quite as unsettling since the days of World War II.
So the question remains… why?
There are plenty of songs asking the same question, and I’ve even added one from Pink to the Donald thread — but the questions keep coming.
🌍 Global Reflections
Why does the justice system in South Africa so often feel like it favours criminals over the state? Endless postponements, bail applications, and backlogs have become the norm.
Why does corruption continue to plague the police force?
The Madlanga Commission has delivered some eye-opening moments — Gareth Mnisi certainly winning the coconut, but the sharp questioning from Chaskalson has been a standout against them all.
In the UK, the Peter Mandelson vetting saga continues to dominate, while the departure of Robbins raises more questions than answers.
And why has the situation in Ukraine slipped off the front pages? Volodymyr Zelenskyy still needs global backing.
🏇 Racing Round-Up
On the racing front, it’s business as usual — with daily insights, tips and interviews available on site.
This weekend sees the final big meeting at Turffontein where Robyn Louw from 4Racing sent a wonderful background of some of our racing legends .
Buffalo Storm Cody standing out as the banker in the bumper pick 6.
Across the pond:
Sandown Park Racecourse hosts both flat and jumps action
Field Of Gold returns on Friday
The incredible Jonbon headlines Saturday’s jumps card.
Sunday brings Champions Day in Hong Kong, where the phenomenal Ka Ying Rising looks to make it 20 from 20 — while Romantic Warrior, the world’s highest earner, adds further star power.
🇬🇧 Flat Season Heats Up
The Classics are fast approaching:
2000 Guineas (2 May): Bow Echo heads the betting
1000 Guineas (3 May): Precise leads the market
Aidan O’Brien continues to dominate — with a remarkable grip on the Derby betting for Epsom in June.
And with York and Royal Ascot around the corner, the flat season is only just getting started.
🇮🇪 Irish Spotlight
Attention may turn to Punchestown Festival:
Why would the Hollywood team want to attend?
What a race for the Champion Chase
El Etait Temps vs Marine Nationale and Majborough on 28th April
Gold Cup clash: Gaelic Warrior vs Fact To File on 29th
Potential return of Lossiemouth
That’s why she’ll be money on 💰… the 1st May in the Champion Hurdle.
⚽ Football Focus
Why have travel costs skyrocketed for England fans at the World Cup?
At least the Scots might just walk it — à la I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles).
In the Premier League:
Arsenal have drifted from 1/10 to 12/10 — why take their eye off the ball?
Manchester City remain right there
If both sides win their remaining games, the title could come down to goal difference — margins couldn’t be finer.
Up in Scotland, Heart of Midlothian must overcome Hibernian in the Edinburgh Derby to stay on track.
🎵 Final Note
We’ll leave you with a classic from the brilliant Annie Lennox — a fitting soundtrack to uncertain times.
Good punting 👍

Re: WHY .....DONALD......WHY
2 weeks 6 days agoForeign fans should just stay away
They, especially those who are not white, will be harassed and the immigration gates and if they get in they will be questioned wherever they go and ICE will he at all matches looking to detain “illegal aliens” as they love to call it.
Now Trump wants Italy to replace Iran in the WC
Why? Because the right wing Italian PM has seen through him and he wants her to cosy up again.
FIFA must stand firm and say no.

If FIFA agrees to kick Iran out the tournament and replace them with Italy, FIFA will collapse as the ruling body.
If that happens, all the other countries should boycott the WC, the USA and Italy can play amongst themselves and declare a winner.

Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

The latest reports confirm that it is FIFA behind the price gouging... the final tickets sitting at R180 000 as opposed to Qatar R27 000
No idea where that other pricing comes from Dave.....
