The demographic of buyers who play at the head of the global bloodstock market is, in the grand scheme, relatively narrow. But it seemed as though everyone who matters was in attendance at Tattersalls on Wednesday as day two of Book 1 of the October Yearling Sale became the highest grossing session of selling in European auction history.

During a session that bordered on the outrageous, eight lots brought 1,000,000gns or more as turnover reached 49,545,000gns, a massive 65 per cent year-on-year increase. The average price was up by a hefty 49 per cent at 344,062gns and the median rose by 25 per cent to 200,000gns. The clearance rate was 88 per cent as 144 sold from 163 offered.

Watership Down Stud’s Frankel colt out of So Mi Dar bore more than a passing resemblance to his sire and marched into the Park Paddocks ring with an accordingly sizeable reputation. The blue-blooded youngster lived up to his star-billing by drawing a bid of 2,800,000gns from Godolphin, a price that makes him the most expensive yearling sold anywhere in the world this year.

It was good to see Sheikha Hissa of Shadwell Stud, the daughter of the late Sheik Hamdan buying horses at the sale and continuing her fathers legacy. She was present and inspecting the horses as well. At the moment they are only buying filles. They did the same in America recently.

Recently someone won Euro 173 million in European State Lottery.
My wife asked me what I would do if I won that kind of money.
I scratched my head as I have travelled a lot and have the smaller versions of the material things.
I would look after the kids of course but there is one thing that I would like do if I won that sort of amount.
At the Tattersalls sales there are 2 maybe 3 colts that are going o be sold around 3mill gns.
I would wait until the Irish mafia and Godolphin have exhausted the bidding and when the auctioneer has said :Going once,Going twice then I would stick my paddle up and wait for the reaction!

Chaos, turmoil and strife make the rich richer and the poor poorer...case in point the increased share of wealth of the rich during the recent scamdemic and the greater numbers of middle class pushed into poverty by the decisions of the elites...

You are right but that billion spent already is from 3-4 pairs of hands.
There are 500 youngsters up for sale in Tattersalls Book 1.
