Terms & Conditions
Welcome to the Clan – but first, a few house rules! We’ve kept them clear, simple and easy to understand, so there are no nasty surprises later. They apply to everyone using African Betting Clan, so please give them a quick read before you register or post. Then you’re good to go!
1. About these terms
African Betting Clan ("ABC", "we", "us") is a South African community forum for horse racing and sports betting discussion, online at africanbettingclan.com (PO Box 40390, Moreleta Park, Pretoria, 0044, South Africa; info@africanbettingclan.com; +27 (0) 82 785 4357). By registering, or by using the site in any way, you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and the Forum Rules, which all form part of these Terms.
If you don't agree with any of these Terms, please don't use the site. Registration is not required to read the forum, but if you register, you confirm that you have read and accepted everything below.
2. 18+ only
You must be 18 years of age or older to use this site. The forum exists to discuss horse racing and sports betting, and gambling is for adults only under South African law. By registering, you confirm that you are 18 or older.
If you are under 18, please leave the site now — you can come back when you are old enough. If you believe a minor has registered, please tell us and we will investigate and remove the account.
3. Responsible gambling
Betting should be fun — not a problem. We are a discussion forum, not a bookmaker, but we take responsible gambling seriously because our members matter more than any bet. The simple rules: only bet what you can afford to lose, and never chase losses. If a bet is not fun anymore, stop.
Free, confidential help is available from the National Responsible Gambling Programme, 24 hours a day, on 0800 006 008 or at responsiblegambling.org.za. Their counsellors are trained, non-judgemental and confidential.
Winners know when to stop. If betting stops being entertainment and starts being a problem, please reach out — there is help, and asking for it takes courage, not weakness.
4. Accounts
One account per person. That keeps the community honest and makes moderation fair. Keep your registration details accurate, and update them if they change — a correct email address is how we reach you about your account.
Your password is your responsibility. Choose a strong one, don't share it, and don't reuse your banking password. If you believe someone else has used your account, tell us immediately so we can help you secure it.
We may close accounts that are used for abuse, multi-accounting, or impersonation. A forum full of honest, single-account members is a better forum for everyone.
5. Acceptable use
Keep it respectful. The golden rule of this forum: treat other members the way you want to be treated. In practical terms, that means you must not:
- post defamatory, hateful, harassing, threatening, or illegal content — about members or anyone else;
- spam the forum, run scams, or push "guaranteed winner" systems — there is no such thing, and anyone promising one is selling something;
- tout paid tips or unlicensed services. If you are a tipster, share your knowledge openly like everyone else — don't use the forum as a shop window;
- impersonate members, staff, owners, trainers, or jockeys — real identities matter in racing;
- post other people's private information (addresses, phone numbers, banking details, ID numbers) without their permission;
- copy entire articles or posts from elsewhere. Excerpts with credit and a link are fine — that is how a good community shares knowledge;
- create multiple accounts to dodge a ban. Bans are final for a reason.
When in doubt, ask yourself: would I be happy if my grandmother read this post? If the answer is no, rewrite it before you hit submit.
6. Your posts (user-generated content)
Your posts are yours. You keep full ownership of what you write. What you grant us is a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual, sublicensable licence to host, store, display, reproduce, distribute and prepare derivative works of your posts — including AI-generated summaries. In plain language: you give us permission to keep the forum running, to show your posts to other members, and to summarise or repurpose them in ways that make the site work.
By posting, you warrant that the content is yours, that you have the right to post it, and that it doesn't infringe anyone's copyright, trademarks, or other rights. If you quote someone else, quote a little, and give credit.
7. Public nature of posts
The forum is a public community. Anything you post is public: it can be read, shared, quoted, and indexed by search engines. Treat every post like a letter to the world — because it effectively is one. Don't post personal information (yours or anyone else's) that you wouldn't want public.
You can edit or delete your own posts at any time using the in-app tools. When you delete a post, it is disassociated from your account, but the public record may remain — posts can be quoted, cached, or republished elsewhere before you delete them. If you need help removing something, contact us and we will do what we can.
8. Betting content disclaimer (important)
Everything on this site — tips, selections, analysis, form comments, discussion — is information and opinion, shared for discussion only. It is not advice and not a recommendation to place any bet. Tips and selections are the opinions of individual members, not endorsements by African Betting Clan.
We are not a bookmaker, we are not a party to any bets, and we do not take a cut of anything. Any reliance you place on tips or information found on the site is entirely at your own risk.
Betting involves risk, and you can lose money — sometimes more than you planned. Only bet what you can afford to lose. This disclaimer carries forward the site's long-standing policy: we take no responsibility for any losses incurred by you, however they arise from the use of this site. If you act on something you read here, you are acting on your own judgement, and that is exactly how it should be.
The views expressed on this website are not necessarily the views held by the proprietors of the site. African Betting Clan is not responsible for any content posted by members — each member is responsible for what they write.
9. Sponsor advertising
The forum is free to use, and sponsor banner ads keep it that way. The banners are outbound links to bookmaker sites. We may receive commission from some of those links — it's how the site pays its bills — but it never changes what we say about a meeting, a horse, or a bookmaker.
When you click a banner, you leave African Betting Clan and enter the sponsor's site. Their terms, their privacy practices, and their promotions govern your use of their site from that point on. We are not responsible for their services, their odds, or their treatment of you — but if a sponsor behaves badly, tell us. We listen.
10. AI features
Ask-AI and thread summaries are generated from forum content using artificial intelligence. They are conveniences, not oracles: they may be imperfect, incomplete, or simply wrong. Use them for discussion and orientation — never as the basis for a betting decision. The form always matters more than the summary.
Please do not put personal information in AI questions. AI questions are processed to generate answers, and they are not a private channel. If a question involves your personal details, don't ask it through AI — email us instead.
11. Moderation
The forum is moderated by long-time community members — people who know racing and know this community. Their job is to keep the forum civil, on-topic, and useful for everyone, and they do it as volunteers out of love for the game.
We may remove or edit content, and suspend or close accounts, that breach these Terms or the Forum Rules. We are not obliged to monitor every post — but we act on reports, and there is a Report button on every post. If you see something that breaks the rules, report it and move on; don't feed the trolls.
12. Intellectual property
The design of the site, the ABC logo, and the content we publish (other than member posts) belong to African Betting Clan. Don't copy them commercially without our permission — that goes for scraping, rebranding, or reusing our material on other sites.
Member posts belong to their authors, as set out in section 6. If you want to use someone's post elsewhere, ask them first — it is their work, and credit is free.
13. Clan points & rewards
Clan points are a virtual community currency. They have no cash value — they can't be bought, sold, or exchanged for money, and they aren't transferable between accounts. They are our way of saying thanks for being part of the Clan.
You earn points by taking part: posting topics and replies, giving and receiving thanks and likes, entering competitions, using the site's tools, completing your profile, logging in daily and keeping streaks going, and unlocking achievements. The full list lives on the points page, and the ways to earn can change as the site grows.
Points can be spent in the rewards shop on badges, ad-free browsing, name colours, and supporter perks. Redemptions are final once made — points spent are points spent, and perks run for the period shown at purchase.
Don't try to game it. Automated or duplicate farming, trading points, or manipulating the system in any way can mean points are forfeited and the account faces action, at our discretion. All point, streak, and achievement awards are at our discretion too, and we may correct errors without notice — if we ever make a mistake, tell us and we will put it right.
14. Competitions
The weekly tipping competition is for registered members aged 18 or over with a valid account in good standing. One entry per competition unless the competition page says otherwise, and entries must be in before the stated deadline — late picks don't count.
Prizes are points and badges, not cash, unless a specific competition says otherwise. Winners are determined by the rules shown on the competition page, and the decisions of the competition adjudicator are final.
We may disqualify entries that are late, that come from duplicate accounts, or that bend the rules. If a competition is disrupted by a technical fault or abuse, we may cancel or reschedule it. Keep it fun — this is about bragging rights among the Clan, not about winning at all costs.
15. Paid services
The forum's core stays free, and we mean it. A few optional, voluntary services help keep the lights on.
Buy-a-Coffee is a voluntary tip — no obligation, no product attached. When you buy us a coffee, 100% of your coffee reaches the Clan; covering the transaction fee is your choice, not our default.
The Clan Supporter model — a monthly supporter subscription, one-time lifetime membership, and purchasable credits — rewards the members who carry the community. You can cancel a subscription anytime; it keeps running until you do. Credits are a virtual balance with no cash value: they are for site features, they aren't refundable, and they can't be cashed out.
Payments are processed by PayFast and Mobicred, our payment partners — their terms and privacy practices apply to the payment itself. Refunds are handled at our discretion and in line with the Consumer Protection Act. Grandfathered members — those who supported the site before subscriptions existed — keep their benefits as announced, so the people who built this community are never left behind.
16. Limitation of liability
The site is provided "as is". We work hard to keep it up, accurate, and secure, but we can't promise it will be perfect, uninterrupted, or error-free. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss — including lost profits or lost data — and our total liability to you is capped at R5,000 or the amount you paid us in the last 12 months, whichever is greater.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Some of the "as is" disclaimers are also restricted by the Consumer Protection Act; where the Act gives you rights we cannot exclude, your rights under the Act always win.
17. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify African Betting Clan and its moderators against claims, losses, and costs arising from content you post, or from your use of the site in breach of these Terms. In plain words: if you post something that gets us sued, you stand behind it. If you keep your posts respectful and lawful, this section is a formality you will never think about again.
18. Termination
We may suspend or close your account for breach of these Terms or the Forum Rules, at any time, with notice where practicable. Persistent troublemakers are rare here — when they appear, we act.
You may delete your account at any time — no hoops, no hard feelings. The door swings both ways: the community is a privilege for us to run and for you to enjoy, not a trap.
19. Changes to these Terms
The site grows, and these Terms may grow with it. We may update them by posting a new version on this page — the date at the bottom shows which version applies. Material changes will be announced on the site, so you have a chance to read them. If you are already a member, we'll show you a short notice asking you to acknowledge the updated Terms the next time you visit.
Continued use of the site after changes are posted counts as acceptance of the new version. If you don't accept the new Terms, your option is the same as always: stop using the site.
20. Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. If a dispute ever arises — and we hope none does — the first step is to contact us so we can resolve it amicably. Racing people settle things over a cup of coffee, not in a courtroom.
If we genuinely cannot resolve a dispute, either party may take the matter to the South African courts. That is the honest, complete picture: talk first, litigate last.
