In a previous post I suggested that Makram was not of international quality but I don’t want to rub it in as his biggest fan reads and contributes to the thread Hope that you are well Karma
I'll bite

You should enroll for a post at the ICC

Just on this alone, i think he should be there

Ranking goes out of the window when you play on the sub continent. I just cannot see him becoming a top class batsman. I have been watching cricket for longer then i care to remember and when a player starts out you I have a knack of seeing if he will be a success or not. Dont get me wrong he will carve out a career and a very good living but he is no Gary Kirsten, Tendulker, Hayden, Sharma, Gayle.

Here is the reason i disagree with you and why i rate him so highly.....
There is 2 ways a young batsman gets out. 1 - He gets himself out. 2 - The bowler gets him out.
Markram falls into category 1 (most of the time). Imo, this is the best type of youngster to have as you can see he is good enough to be there, he just needs to apply himself better. The other option(2) means that the bowlers are better than you and you need to look at options...
Now just off the bat (excuse the pun) Kallis, Amla and AB spring to mind... Look at the beginning of their careers. Look at their averages and look at how they went out. All 3 fell into catergory 1... (and in no way am i going to say he is better than those 3, but i am pretty sure at this stage of his career, he has a better record than all 3 of those mentioned) (AB might be close)

Elgar as predicted the rock and de Kock cannot get enough accolades. Brilliantly played.

Agree...
I was once doubtful about de Kock as he played too far away from his body...but has tightened up the more time he has played test cricket...
Agree with @Karma about Markram...he wants to impose himself on the game and too often tries things that gets himself out...more a number 3/4 than an opening batsmen...all in good time...
Still waiting for Bavuma to have purple patch though in the test team for some time now...36 tests in and averaging 33 with 1 hundred in about 60 innings...

Bavuma should be dropped just like Amla was and let him concentrate on his weak points in order to strengthen them. Let him play domestic cricket for a year and then bring him back. Look how well it worked out for Amla. Makram can join him as I cant see him improving anytime soon

I agree with Naresh that it doesnt make to much sense playing 3 spinners... Now that India has had both innings, it makes it even more of a mistery as Muthusamy only got 18 overs the whole game... (yes he got some stick which probably did cost him a few overs) but i am not so sure he was always going to get much of a chance with Maharaj and Piedt there.
Next test i dont see him starting... I would really like to see him replaced by arguably our best batsman over the last year Rassie VD Dussen... Our middle order is so weak, yet you dont play what has been your best batsman in recent times... He is a fighter and i cannot see any issues making the transition from white ball cricket to red ball cricket.. Come on selectors, give Rassie a go...

Pathetic attempt to save the match. All the best SA players are either playing for other countries or awaiting qualification to play for them. Only 5 proper test players in the side Elgar, du Plessis, Radaba, Philander and de Kock.

AB's to busy spending more time away from his family then he ever did when he played for SA.Soon so too will Gray Kirsten, which is the reason they both gave for giving up on SA cricket.I'm not having a go at them, just reading between the lines as it were.

Muthusamy made more runs in this test match than our so called captain did, deserves another chance.
Markram is way over rated imo and to me club cricket is his chop.

Kirsten won’t get the job, Silverwood who is on the coaching staff will be the next England coach
