not arguing the point but many many players "try" harder for their clubs.

CNC, you think some of the losing players (and maybe some of the winning team) are in tears because of lack of effort? I don't think so, these players are sweating blood to do their country proud. Unlike winning a league title, here you have 7 (correction) games to do so, and then wait another 4 years, with no guarantee of qualifying for the tournament proper (again).
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

You have read me wrong yet again Gregbucks. Off course they sweat blood in the world cup and off course they all want to go as far as possible. Look how much effort they put in in friendlies and qualifying matches when through. Managers of league clubs make a mockery of playing for your country. Your ex manager was an expert in preventing his players representing their countries by citing injuries yet come the Saturday and they all played.

I know and then they score 2 minutes into the extra time period. Never mind this football season we are going to really concentrate. I hope that you can get bets on the Scottish lower leagues as there is plenty of money to be won there.

GB, these things will happen at this level. There are no more minnows at these tournaments. The gap in world football has closed dramatically between the have's and have not's - there are no have not's anymore. All players are full time professionals, unlike say, up to the middle to late 70's, when countries like Belgium, Austria or Switzerland, the national players held down day jobs and then went to training before an international match and caught a 6 piece for good measure. We punt on reputations, bottom line.

Anyway, don't be surprised if the USA dump Belgium out. The USA have no stars, but work collectively as a unit, that's their strength.
