Changes to the WSB Summer Cup Log
2 years 4 months ago
PHUMELELA MEDIA RELEASE
SUBJECT: Updated Summer Cup Log
DATE: Monday 8 November
RELEASED BY: Phumelela Gaming
There have been a number of adjustments to the latest Gauteng Summer Cup log this week.
Astrix, rated 112, has been supplemented into the World Sports Betting presents the Gauteng Summer Cup over 2000m at Turffontein in 27 November, and is positioned 12th on the log after placing in both the OnamissionMile and the Victory Moon Stakes.
Victory Moon Stakes winner Sparkling Water improved her position from 12th to 9th, despite not receiving an adjustment to her merit rating. She was very well-in at the weights in the Victory Moon and as such, did not need to run above her rating to win that Grade 3 event.
Golden Pheasant showed more improvement, albeit at the age of seven, when running a close 2nd in the Victory Moon and accordingly improved his position from 15th to 11th.
The other notable mover is Al Muthana, rated 104, who has been included in the top 20 after the demotion of both Running Brave and Tree Tumbo for their disappointing showings over the past weekend.
Declarations for the meeting and the announcements of the weights have been moved to 22 November so that trainers will be able see the draws for the Cape Fillies Guineas, which take place on that day, before deciding where to run certain of the leading horses.

Final field 19 runners. Donald Macdonald and Marchingontogether scratched.
Desert Miracle scratched in both nominated races. Most probably heading to the Fillies Guineas in Cape Town, drawn 6. Was only going to accept in Gauteng if drawn badly in the Fillies Guineas.

Supporting races fields looks small, or is that the norm?

I think its got to do with the Summer Cup retaining its Grade 1 status as per international pattern rules. There was a topic in Sportingpost a few weeks back.

The weight changes make it difficult to look beyond Malmoos, Got the Greenlight and War of Athena.
