Is there any real study that proves this drug actual works? When high-flow oxygen was the base treatment for Covid in hospitals Doctors soon found out that it was actually doing more harm than good and they ammended that approach - Surely if this drug worked some doctors would be prescribing it and that treatment would spread -
Maybe another study can prove its effectiveness but it certainly is no wonder drug .

After 21 days 82% of the patients who received ivermectin had no symptoms and 79% of those who received the placebo were symptom-free. The average time till symptoms alleviated was ten days in the ivermectin group versus 12 in the placebo one. These results are not statistically significant and could also be a result of the placebo group having more participants over 65 and more males. There were also no significant differences in the medical care the two groups needed, or who needed more serious medical intervention.

Ivermectin did not help my mother in law even though taken a day after being diagnosed so not the solution for some...she did recover 3+ weeks later though the cough lingered for a little longer...all good now...

But I agree that it should have at least been tried to assist those that it could have worked for rather than banning its use due to vested interests...

Howzit mr H - I don't know diddly-squat apart from what I read - and of course trials need to be done - however imo the article from DM does not prove anything one way or another (a total of 200 patients :ohmy: )

And I also will admit that there seems to be a lot of people saying 'it does not work' - but there are certainly also quite a lot that I know that swears by it - what is worrisome to me is that the Government (after the AstraZeneka debacle) seems unwilling to even consider that a cheaper alternative is available

Monet talks and I have no doubt if this did actually work then the company that has the rights to make it would have quickly got a study up and running to prove it - I do know that the Flu vaccine is actually only about 50 % effective sometimes even less so I just don't know how this group of Vacs are so effective - I personally think it really depends on the person that contracts - I got it and it was very mild just no smell and a general feeling of being unwell yet my wife had zero symptoms. It seems certain people get it really bad and for them I hope these Vaccines help - It worries me that I might have to get the Vac just so I can have "electronic proof"... you are basically forced to take it or I think you will be restricted in various ways

"cheaper" doesn't leave enough room in procurement / tenders for the ANC to get it's cut via @donations"...:whistle:

It was apparently not big enough."

All I can say is that the ANC has disappointed more and more with their daily shenanigans, lies, theft and corruption.
Only chance is the Cyril bites the bullet but he is out numbered by the hard core "baddies".😢

We have a situation where the dustbin men are on strike and you can't take rubbish to the dump yourself, without intimidating circumstances.

I was woken up this morning with strange noises at 5.30 to find a young woman with a baby attached to her back and a torch searching through 2 week old dustbins for food and anything to survive.
Very sad situation 😒 God bless them 🙏

Disgraceful action by students.
It might be coincidence but all appear to wear red T shirts.
Damaging property and throwing stones at police and the police continue to pussy foot around in case of repercussions.

It's sad that these students are the future of SA

If you have a script from a doctor, you should be able to get ivermectin that same day, or the next day at the latest, from a compounding pharmacy or a pharmacy holding stock.

This follows this week’s “unbanning” of the drug, traditionally used to kill parasites in humans and animals, allowing for its use in the prevention and treatment of Covid-19.

A compounding pharmacy is one where ingredients are combined or mixed on site to create a drug tailored to the needs of an individual patient, as opposed to a pharmacy which only sells retail and packaged medication.

Westville-based medical doctor Naseeba Kathrada who, along with about 50 other doctors under the banner “I Can Make a Difference”, was one of four groupings which successfully challenged the anti-ivermectin stance of the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (Sahpra).

Earlier this year, Sahpra buckled slightly and agreed that individual applications for its use could be made on a patient-by-patient basis through its section 21 process (for the use of unregistered drugs) on “compassionate grounds”.

But doctors complained that this process took too long, more than an hour to fill in the paperwork and then sometimes weeks for a response.


Pharmacists said they could not legally access the drug.


Then, with four similar applications set down to be heard at the same time in the Pretoria high court, an ivermectin-based cream, Soolantra, was registered by Sahpra.



Kathrada said this was a game changer. “What this meant was that the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) was now registered for human use, primarily for eczema. The process can take up to eight years ... and can cost R1m to R2m.







“With the pandemic we didn’t have the time, or the money, to go through that process. And that is why we went to court.”


She said now that the cream is registered, the API was registered and compounding pharmacists could now use the same API in another formulation — be it a syrup, capsule, cream or tablet — which can be prescribed for Covid-19.


Kathrada said since the granting of the court order, she had spent time finding out which compounding pharmacists had stock and “we have lots”.


Some pharmacists had kept stock for use in cases where there had been approval through the section 21 process — including for stubborn parasitic conditions before the pandemic.



It was as simple as sending through a script and, depending on where the patient lived, waiting for a delivery.

“From 25kg of powder, I believe it is possible to make four to five million tablets, depending on the dosage. Because it is weight-based, the milligrams per patient will differ.

“It’s important to get the message out, not only to the public but to doctors, so they know where the stock is and how to access it.”

Depending on the dosage, Kathrada said a pack of 10 tablets could cost anything between R70 and R90.

It was also possible for non-compounding pharmacies to carry stock and for doctors to carry “anticipatory stock” in the event of a huge rise in infections, she added.

Clinical trials on the use of ivermectin to combat the effects of the virus remain inconclusive about its efficacy.

According to the order, signed off by Pretoria high court judge Cassim Sardiwalla, Sahpra has to report back to the court every three months, detailing any developments in the use and availability of the drug.
