I had a word with Vee in connection with above announcement and the reason for the change.

Vee would like to give more female jockeys a chance to join the industry as in places like Australia and UK there is a big population of lady riders.

This has been tried and successful in France.

Female horses have a sex allowance so why not the actual lady riders.

He hopes this will start a trend and upswing in ladies joining the ranks and also consider that a ladies riding lifespan is less than the male counterparts..

Equestrian sports are one of the few sports where men and women can and do compete on equal terms and where all the evidence is that women can and do hold their own. Sadly, irrational prejudice does persist making it more difficult for women to get opportunities in horse racing.
I would thus applaud this initiative by the NHRA to encourage more women to enter the jockey ranks, and to assist in getting them riding chances.
However, I am less sure that it is a good idea to have a lifetime allowance for a top woman rider.
The impact on MR assessments of allowances is problematic as horses that win under a good apprentice ride are effectively over- rated thereafter.

Rachel Venniker is going to be the most sought jockey or should I say jockette in the country. Barring black type races and sale races she will be able to claim in every race.

Women don't need an allowance for racing - they have proven that as most are gentler riders and get more out of horses that need a calm hand - I see it as an insult to women riders who are true horsemen - In show-jumping women often best men - Perhaps advertising at schools for female riders to try out is a better option than penalising males because they carry 2 stones extra.

any stable worth 10 cents should rush to put her on retainer as you have a permanent 1.5kg advatage.

she does not believe that ex-males should compete against biological females so i wonder if she'd go for this... i'm as politically correct as Jacob Zuma so all these pro and fore nouns have no bearing on my reality. and i'm so insignificant that i can't be cancelled.
