so this is the logic used to boot Choisinaada from the July.

3 of the 5 panel chose Choisinaada. Only one panel member rated Regulation higher than 19th.
Rated 15 points higher than regulation, however Regulation was Grade 3 placed and that was sufficient.
Regulation never been further 1900.

I remember the year Bold Silvano won the July ,the 4thplace horse ,think it was trained by Mike Azzir.Yes its name was Silver Ace I think.Cant remember if this horse won a race going into the July but placed in a group race after running about four times  .There were lots of talk about how this horse got into the July but in the end ran a credible 4th.
This horse Regulation may yet prove that his inclusion works out well for the connections .
Definitely one for the short list ..
On another question does breeding ( past Group 1 winners) influence the panel in any way ?

What price would Choisinaada be if it was a runner?

Will have to wait for some of the bigger priced runners to drift outwards. A dark horse for this years event is The Ultimate King and place value.

DURBAN JULY FINAL FIELD FALLOUT

"What more does a horse have to do?" - Erico Verdonese

Rated 121, a seven-time winner from just 18 starts, victories over Grade 1 winners Fire Attack and Confederate, yet Choisaanada finds himself only a reserve for the Durban July.

Trainer Erico Verdonese didn't hold back: "I worked all my life to have a runner like this and this happens."

In theory the owner does not matter, but yes I believe they made a cock-up of the 'final log' - as it stands, I think Regulation is a 'better' candidate for the final field (seeing that Zac Lloyd rides, will he finish 3rd  ) than Choisaanada - but you can argue that opinion from all sides. What I believe 'they' messed up (the final field abjudicators) are that nowhere it is mentioned how the inconsistency between the 'final log' and the 'final field selected' is explained; imo it does not matter how the 'esteemed panel' got to the final field - but imo it does matter how the final field was selected as opposed to the 'final log'.

I also believe that - taking form into account, the best 'value' at 40/1 (definitely a selection to place) is The Ultimate King ....
