racing in western cape

i want to know wats wrong with owners in the western cape,they seem to forget that racing is a sport and not a business! they seem to have alot to say in this forum and brag about wat great horses they own and yet they forget to pay thier training fees! and this is not current but months in arrears! and dont forget to mention the cabs they drive,alot to say and nothing to pay, you know who you are!

thats a bit damning. Unless you have proof to substantiate your claims you should not be making accusations like this.

not restricted to western cape i'm afraid many owners don't pay in gauteng too! The paying owners and trainer have to carry them until they see fit to pay. some earn stakes and instead of settling spend the cash before the trainer can get paid or move their horses after a "dispute" to another poor trainer - the NHRA gives colours too easily in my opinion(at least without checking if the owner can really afford to pay as they did in the old days)

Hi "donaclare".Interesting read.Prior to colours being granted,the powers that be should secure a deposit from the owner which should cover at least 6 months keep.This deposit should then be used to re-imburse the unpaid trainer.

Many of the new syndicates being set up are using this approach or similar so that you have no real worries as an owner for a year or 18 months - the way to go - iwonder if the tba will release the amount which is outsanding on their sales which is from what i've heard an alarming amount - similar situation buy a horse on auction and then just not pay - no idea how people think they can get away with it

So the sales stats become somewhat skewed if the bid is not settled in hard cash.Do the bidders get 30 days to pay or what?

The trainers use their own internal network to try and warn each other about non-payers but there is always someone with a few empty boxes that will sucumb especially if the owner arrives with a wad of cash to pay for his first month's keep - after that you can whistle - and the cycle continues until there are no more trainers left to take his horses

not the 30 day period after that i'm afraid - that's why the tba has a blacklist policy to stop repeat performers
